No surprises from me with the Allmans (mainly through Brothers & Sisters), followed very closely by Skynyrd (only up to 1977) and then Little Feat.
I'm surprised at the lack of love for post-plane crash Skynyrd. Would people rate the music higher if the band had changed its name, Black Star Riders style? Personally, I think God & Guns and Edge of Forever are Skynyrd's best two albums. I like the Ronnie albums as well but it's these two I reach for most often.
I've just got into The Marshall Tucker Band via the re-releases of their first two albums. Really interesting musically (love the flute) & fab songs! Any recommendations thereafter?
I hear ya, ferret! I love the post-reunion lineup - heck, I travelled from Athens, Greece to Vienna, Austria to see them live last week. I love all the post-reunion albums, but particularly "God & Guns" is outstanding. I'd rate it up there among my all-time favourite albums.
The Marshall Tucker Band is amazing! Glad you're getting into them. Personally I'd continue chronologically with "Where We All Belong" and "Searchin' for a Rainbow".
