Not in my real life though! Just here! :heheh:

I'd be shocked if it were otherwise after all your contemporaries all grew up listening to the same new artists you did no different than those of us a couple decades ahead of you.;) I wonder though Sooty do any of your friends tend to the "Dark Side"? By that I mean when I was growing up instead of a diet of Olivia Newton John, Neil Diamond, ABBA like a lot of my friends I was playing BTO, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf heavier music as well as the lighter fare.

Here's one that always makes me shake my head in utter astonishment, the most overrated piece of crap ever pressed in wax "Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols" by the Sex Pistols. I do understand the context of what was happening in England when this album came out and became the rallying cry for an entire generation who were fed up with what they saw in their society, but musically......it's rubbish and no matter who tries to convince me it has value (and many have over the years) I will never change my mind about it.

Not only that but there were so many more talented Punk bands making good music it's always bothered me they never got the attention they deserved.

Some interesting comments so far, it's interesting to see several mentions of Pink Floyd - I wouldn't go as far as to describe them as a 'marmite' band, but I can see why the exact same songs I (and many others) love leave plenty of other people cold, and that's before getting into the Syd Barrett vs Roger Waters/David Gilmour debate (I definitely prefer the latter myself).

I'm no punk fan anyway, but I couldn't agree more about the Sex Pistols - I think they were a triumph of style over substance, although I don't think time has been especially kind to their music.

I would have to say my Yes, Pink Floyd and ELP gear drives Tray nuts and anything to do with Bryan Ferry is enough to tip me over the edge:sm:

I don't care for the Floyd debates personally nor do I care who thinks what era is the best I only care about what I personally prefer, heck I like the first album more than some of what is perceived to be their best.

The Beatles as a whole. Tons of people tell me they are overrated, they weren't very good musicians, they were a boy band, they would have never made it without Epstein and Martin, etc,,,. All of that might be true, but I like them and they are my favorite band. I've gone to bat for them hundreds of time, but anymore, i'm just to tired to care. You either like them or you don't. My oldest brother despises them and says he cant handle any of their songs. I find it hard to believe that a catalog that vast doesn't contain even one song somebody couldn't listen to. I think its more of a personal thing. Regardless, I've yet to come across a band that showed such musical growth in such a short period of time as the Beatles did. They were singing She Loves You' and three years later you had 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. Right place at the right time? Who knows.

My mom says she 'survived' Ted Nugent.:gig

I'm the only person in my entire family (sibs, cuz, aunts, uncs, etc) who likes KISS.

The cheese stands alone.

On the flipside, I'm the only person in our clan that really dislikes Toby Keith.

A lumbering buffoon that would probably be washing dishes by now if not for his capitalizing on 9/11 with his flag waving songs.

I think the whole Beatle bashing thing is just people trying to be edgy and iconoclastic. I remember trying my hand at that when I was younger so it just kind of makes me chuckle when I see people (especially grown up people) doing it.

I mean it is entirely possible to actually not like anything you've ever heard by them but more often than not when someone professes to hate The Beatles they are just trying to get a rise out of you.

Taking another dig at DSOTM and TW Riff...doesn't surprise me in the least.

Seriously, Piper is not even close to either of those albums, and I realize you don't care what other folks think you say that often enough. The majority of PF fans have spoken a lot louder and longer than you though, DSOTM and TW are far more popular than Piper will ever be...I wonder why that is.;)

"Piper",while a very fine relic from the psychedelic age,is merely Floyd in its creative infancy.Roger Waters et al continued to strive further and further towards total studio mastery until works such as "Dark Side" "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" emerged as the ultimate culminations of these efforts.
