^^ All work horses George. Your right they don't make them like that.

I really think you had a great idea adding that tube component. I like hearing it take the square edges off the digital stuff

When you have a set of cojones woofers your neighbors aren't your friends but you have bragging rights :D

I had conjones woofers once... once

I'm fortunate that my neighbor on one side is a middle aged couple that are frequently gone on weekends. On the other is an older duo that don't really complain much if at all. Then again, maybe I don't turn up my rig that high.

Jim, cojones woofers never go away they just get dialed downl if it is what I think you're saying. LOL!

Turntable picked up this low level hum and so was the Parasound. Used a cheater plug on the amp and tightened the ground pin on the Musical Fidelity. Problems solved.

^^It is weird sometimes how interference affects your equipment, years ago I was living beside a guy with a massive Ham radio set, when he was broadcasting and I had my stereo on I would pick up all kinds of random signals, including some police chat from 3 blocks away...really disconcerting and glad you found the gremlin and sorted it out.

Speakers Marantz HD-66 (These are pretty beat up). These are rare nowadays. These probably lasted 10 years or so before one of the woofers fell apart. Should have repaired them..

I forgot to ask, do you still have your Marantz speakers? If you do it's possible to fix or replace the woofers, if they just needed to be refoamed you could do that yourself there are lots of DIY kits out there. I've had good luck finding parts for vintage gear, one of the best things about the internet are all the options for collectors to find what they need to keep the old gear running.

:grinthumb LOL Back in the day my ma told me "turn them down before you can't hear anymore, Me: but ma these cojones woofers rock! bwahahaha

George, LG makes a good point have you given any thought to doing a refurb on the Marantz ? I am still mad at myself for tossing those Infinity SM120 cabinets.... those were first year Infinities and at the time I hadn't bought speakers in so long I had no idea what the market was. And I was in hurry to move 800 miles south so.... I still think I would have been able to refurb them.

^^Years ago my brother's Celestion Ditton 551's started to fall apart, and eventually he just threw them away, most likely some scavengers picked them up but looking back he should have kept them. It's not hard to find proper parts or refoam woofers which is what they needed. I've seen a couple pairs on vintage sites, and they weren't outrageously expensive either.

I tend to hang onto all my gear, the manuals and original boxes too makes it a lot easier when you move or if you want to sell old equipment.

Unfortunately they are gone. At the time it did not dawn on me to repair them. I thought I could replace the woofers but they would not be the same as the original. This happened thirty years ago and I was not savvy about those things. Oh well I did however go out and buy the JBL's :banghead:

^^It was an upgrade for you GG which is the only way to go and 30 years ago unless you knew a technician or lived in a big city options were limited when it came to fixing up old equipment, one thing the internet has revolutionized is getting your hands on almost impossible to find parts these days.

I think the fact many old technicians have opened shops to service old vintage electronics says a lot about the quality the old gear had, especially compared to the much cheaper "Chinese Knockoffs" that dominate the market today.

GG you don't know what you don't know. and Like LG says you gotta be in the big city in order to have a shop around to help.

Even down here in good old SC there isn't much help. and if you do find some it will be big $ incompetent help.
