I have to agree with grunge. Metal's last gasp and sure had some fine moments.

Oasis - Definitely Maybe. A statement of intent, one of the all time great debut albums IMO.

Oh and on the subject of Oasis:

The most exciting thing I can think of is the Indie revolution and the increasing numbers of female artists. The surgence of popularity for Indie bands started in the early 90's and hasn't stopped since. Female artists are now more accepted than ever. You see alot of female fronted bands and bands that are totally female.

Magic, I am surprised that no one else has made mention of the insurgence of women in popular music during the 90's. In the past, there was the occasional woman artist, but the rise of women in popular music during the 90's was a phenomenon that hasn't even started to ebb.

1992 Springtime. Saw the video for Silent All These Years, and frankly, wasn't impressed. Having discovered Kate Bush for myself about three years prior, I had a pretty high bar set for any woman writing personal, emotional music. But then.... my friend had left the cassette of Little Earthquakes in my car tape player. After a few trips back-and-forth to work "Winter" came around on the player. This was the song my soul had been waiting for, for years. With one listen, I "got" it.

The return of Emerson, Lake and Palmer on Warners' offshoot, Victory Records, excited me and it takes a lot to excite me. Black Moon was a bit of a damp squib, considering they had nineties technology, but their comeback live performances were better than the original vinyl. When Golden Earring also came back, I was beside myself with joy. Grunge meant a return to heavy and prgoressive rock for a while, so it was all good. A few bands I latched onto in the nineties were Blue Murder, Badlands, Jagged Edge, Stiltskin, Temple of the Dog, Spock's Beard, The Tea Party and Masters of Reality.

Another exciting thing was Classic Rock magazine appeared at the end of the nineties and it was the first proper rock publication since Melody Maker. The cover cd was good in those days, the first issue had Robin Trower and Greg Lake. It does not seem quite so good now and I buy it less often; the current issue features Queen and I wonder how much more can usefully be written about Freddie Mercury.

I used to buy Classic Rock Magazine every month, then stopped some years ago, as I felt the content was getting worse and worse, but I think they've redeemed themselves recently and I've actually found myself buying the magazine regularly again. Loved the september 2013 issue with American Rock and last months issue with Bad Company. I also buy their Blues spinoff once in a while and also bought their Lynyrd Skynyrd fanpack, which was awesome. I'll be getting their Bad Company fanpack as well.

One of my favorite magazines from the 90's was CMJ New Music Monthly. It came with a CD featuring the new stuff that was coming out or had just been released.

The comp cd's had a wide variety of styles and there were always at least 4- 5 songs that would grab my attention.
