Just listening to the songs in the first post for the first time. I really liked Maiden, Mother and Crone. Then i listened to Fire Lances, which sounds like the same song. Not identical, but VERY much the exact same formula. Also, a pretty wonky video with that second one. Looks like a poor man's ripoff of a scene or two from the 1981 film Heavy Metal.

Now listening to The Black River which starts out different, but once the singing starts, it's the exact same thing again. The vocalist seems to be able to do one thing in each song. Same sound, same voice influctuations, same everything really. Didn't finish listening. Got about 2/3 of the way through it and figured I'd heard enough. Went on to The White Sea, which musically seems to start a lot like Black River. Very similar guitar phrasing.

I will say this, the music is cool. Not incredible, great or amazing by ANY stretch of the imagination, but cool music. The singing is ok, but it's seeming like the same formula from one song to the next.

Overall, from the first post, the first and last songs were the best. I do like this type of metal when it's in an instrumental (White Sea).

Edit: How Heavy This Axe again uses the exact same musical forumula from a couple of other songs, most specifically White Sea -- at least that's how it sounds to me.

New album High Country coming out August 21st.

The title track (audio) is now available. This song, like some of their others, reminds me a little of Captain Beyond.

High Country is only their 5th album. My personal faves are Warp Riders & Apocryphon. Age Of Winters & Gods Of The Earth are great too.

I'll be buying the new one as soon as I can.

Equal parts Sabbath, Skynyrd and ZZ Top, but I've been reminded a little of Captain Beyond here and there.

If you love 70's hard rock/metal, you can't go wrong with all 5 albums.

I really like Warp Riders. Trivett Wingo's drumming is great. Bonus points for being recorded deep in the heart of Texas!
