LG, that's a fine buy... I'm sure it sounds amazing! Tubes really have a very pleasing sound character that's all their own. My own first experience with tubes in hi-fi (my preamp) has made me really want to get a full sized tube amp pretty bad..haha.

In fact I nearly pulled the trigger on a cheap Chinese "Yaqin" a couple of weeks ago, but ended up getting a(nother!) cheap tube guitar head instead....they're a weakness of mine

Monitor Audio launches WS100 wireless desktop speakers

After years of expertise in the hi-fi world and a foray in to portable audio with the successful i-deck range of iPod docks, Monitor Audio has announced its first wireless desktop speakers, the WS100.

Taking the form of two desktop cubes, the Monitor Audio WS100 speakers connect wirelessly to any PC or Mac using a bundled USB dongle wireless transmitter, which has a range of up to 10 metres.

Further dongles will allow you to send audio from up to four audio sources to one set of speakers, while you can also connect up to four pairs of WS100 speakers for a basic multiroom system.

The WS100 speakers use SKAA wireless transmission technology, operating in the the 2.4GHz band, and promising to deliver audio "without compression". It uses a patented wireless protocol called Walking Frequency Diversity to avoid conflicts with other devices in what is after all a pretty crowded part of the radio spectrum.

Each cube speaker has a 7.5cm mid/bass driver driven by a 20W amplifier, plus a 19mm tweeter with its own 10W amp. The amplification is Class D, while the drive units are of Monitor Audio's familiar C-CAM (ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy) construction.

The right speaker acts as the master for the pair, having the power input, wireless receiver and a 3.5mm input for external analogue devices, and connects to the left speaker via a multipin umbilical cable. Volume control buttons are provided on the right speaker.

There's also a smart WS100 remote control to take care of power, play/pause, track up/down, volume and input selection.

Each speaker has die-cast enclosure with a scratch-resistant polished glass top panel and a black grille, plus a 'unique magnetic pivot system': this allows the speaker to be tilted backwards, so it will give the best sound whether on a shelf firing forward or down on a desk firing up.

The Monitor Audio WS100 wireless speakers are due on sale this month, and will cost £250.

.........These seem pretty cool if you want a simple minimalistic set up......

^^I saw a pair of small Monitor Audio desktop speakers in the shop when I bought my RX-8's, I didn't listen to them but I don't think they are the ones you posted 2LITTLETIME. I've been using my little ADS 300's for years now as my PC speakers. I bought these little guys in 1979 and they still sound excellent.

That is definitely a nice system he's got, my only complaint is I want to see the drivers in his cabinets not the covers.

DIY speakers are fine if you know what you're doing, but for me I would never buy a pair from someone and I've seen quite a few for sale where I live. There are so many good brands out there I just don't see the need to build my own.

I almost did the same a few weeks ago Phantasmagoria, there was a 10 watt/channel amp from a shop in Calgary for about $400 I was interested in, Chinese company that was liquidating stock after the recession caused many shops to close. I talked to the owner of the store but then Christmas arrived and I didn't place an order. Then I saw this one in the shop here and it's far better quality at a fair price so I took the plunge. One thing about Tube amps, when you double the power you triple or quadruple the cost of the amplifier.

I have looked at some Chinese tubes though, they get good reviews for quality, which is unusual for most stuff you import from there.

Speakers sound different and the sound is more together now.The sound was very bright before but now everything seems tight and together with more bass.My parents have also noticed ."Turn that bloody bass down is what i am hearing on a regular basis"Im going to treat them to something special soon.Everyone will have to be out and it will be loud. Its going to be either machine head or in rock.

Location
Between my left and right speakers...
Off to South Carolina...

Cue Beatles song... "She's leaving home. Bye! Bye!"

Was solid as a rock. Warm sonics not forward or in your face sounding. Heavy amp section unlike some of the newer receivers out there Great with 2 channel BUT had an annoying habit of reverting itself to original factory settings when there was a power outage. The new owner will use her as a pre-amp with McIntosh amps and Martin Logan Advantages.
