In The Court of the Crimson King is a landmark in the progressive rock music world, might as well start with that one.
I'll give a shout out for In The Wake of Poseidon, their follow up to ITCOTCK it gets overlooked for some reason but I think it's one of their best efforts.
Actually if they are a band you aren't familiar with, and you would like to get to know them, then you should ALWAYS IMO begin easy with a 'collection', the best of which as far as King Crimson goes I reckon is...
Gives you a complete 2 disc retrospective of their career's best stuff from the early days onwards. If you don't' like this then you won't be wasting your money on the original studio albums, I'd always say start with a 'greatest hit's type format with a completely new and untried band.
In the Court of the Crimson King, in my opinion their best album by far. If you can pick up the 40th anniversary edition then do. It has a 5.1 mix of the album that's excellent.
To add to my earlier post: If I was you Kriller, I would start with In The Court Of The Crimson King. Before buying any of their other albums, go to YouTube and listen to them first. That's what I wish I had of done.
