Whatta Show! They played for over two hours. All were in fine form. They did all the hits and lots of deep tracks, including all the songs from "Head". Micky doing "Goin' Down" is still a wonder to behold. I think the highlight was when they did "Daydream Believer". They explained that during rehearsals they discussed which one of them would sing it. They decided that it was Davy's song and "now it belongs to you". They had the audience sing the whole song. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when it was over. If you're a fan and the tour is going to be near you, don't miss it. You won't be disappointed. :)

That was a nice way of doing Daydream Believer :uh: :grinthumb

With Mike on board again they are able to do a lot more new songs and deeper cuts. I only wished this happened before Davy passed away. But here is a great clip of opening night of them doing YOU TOLD ME

I guess this was the pre show show.

I loved The Monkees as a kid back in 1966/1967. My friends and I watched the TV show religiously and had our parents buy the albums. Lots of great memories...

A couple of favorites...

I have this one as part of my season two DVD set.As dreadful and ill-fated the whole project was at the time, particularly NBC's inexplicably obtuse decision to run it up against the Academy Awards on the west coast, today it serves as fascinating curio to Monkee fanatics everywhere.Kind of like the Beatles/"Magical Mystery Tour" movie thing. And of course,"Head".I understand that Peter Tork had actually already quite the band some months before but was still contractually obligated to do at least one special.Naturally, the peacock network reneged on the three remaining specials after the TV nation expressed near complete apathy.

I think it just kicks some major Monkee ass...but of course I can see the lack of appeal BACK THEN. As you mentioned....Magical Mystery Tour was sure frowned upon when it first came out.

Nez is on tour. I saw him a few nights ago at The Canyon Club. He sounds great. He's got a 4 piece band and he's doing songs from throughout his career. He started with "Papa Gene's Blues". If you're a fan and he comes to your town, by all means go. You won't be sorry.

That's something I'D certainly like to be front row center for.I actually DID see Mickey and Davey back in '76 at the start of their original oldies tour along with Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce in support.I also sometimes wonder if Peter would have wound up in Buffalo Springfield had he not garnered the Monkees spot.

I agree with that, I saw them with just 3 with Davy and that was excellent, they were really good, however if I was to see them this time round it might tarnish my experience.

Interesting point. I always wondered why Peter didn't end up as a session musician. He certainly was friends with a lot of top notch players, he even played banjo on George Harrison's "Wonderwall Music" album. I can easily see him as a member of CSNY's touring band or playing with Poco or Pure Prairie League.
