I am amazed someone dusted this old thread off...:heheh:

I can't possibly answer this question but it wouldn't surprise me if in an Official poll Led Zeppelin was named the best band of the 70's.(I wouldn't say that myself though.:nw:)

I would bet my red silk panties, LG would put Deep Purple as his #1 for the 70's.

Well then technically I think Queen is. For one thing they are the highest selling rock band from the 70's and while that may not automatically spell greatness but it doesn't hurt at all. :D

Queen was a big one in the 70's. Always a thrill to see them on the cover of a magazine or a TV appearance back then for sure!!!

:grinthumb :cheers2

One of those bands you think of and you time travel instantly. It is possible.

:cheers2

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - their live debut was in August 1970 and their first album was released in October of the same year. ELP's finest moment is their version of Pictures at an Exhibition at The Royal Albert Hall, broadcast for the BBC in 1992, but which did not make the album (or any album to my knowledge despite an edited version on the DVD). Next is Brain Salad Surgery, which was released in 1973, but still sounds ahead of its time. I like the Love Beach album, but it is reviled on the so-called progressive rock forums.

Black Sabbath is my vote.

Followed by Rainbow w/ RDJ, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Rush, BOC, Budgie, Motorhead, Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, UFO w/ Schenker, Nazareth, Uriah Heep w/ David Byron, Thin Lizzy, AC/ DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Johnny Winter, Toad....the 70's owned.

not really in order BTW
