Well, I may have found something I like in the death metal sampler.

I can see your point, as I too have seen the comments regarding the growling vocals, et. al.

It just seems self-defeating to not even try. Who knows, maybe I would have been converted by a song! Guess I won't know, lol.

Just an opinion.

I agree completely Phil B. Whoever got my CD might have said "Oh, there's too much pop stuff or too many 70's one-hit wonders", or just maybe they might have said "Wow, I haven't heard this in years" or "Didn't care for most of it but there were three or four songs that I really dug". That was the chance we all would have been taking. Turning each other on to music different than what we usually listen to was the fun part. I really hope we do it this coming X-Mas. :cheers2

I wholeheartedly admit that I didn't put my hat into this even though I thought it was a great idea. I didn't do it because I was honest with myself and at the time my focus was elsewhere and ambition was low. I think other people may have had other roadblocks with this even though they initially liked the idea like the involvement of actual addresses whether it be them or who they live with. What I'm saying is this is a workable idea and sometimes fate and real life just has a hand in how they work at the time.

I think one of the main reasons i'm chiming in right now is the ideas of being open minded to others music. I think we should all focus on that and think about how we can use the actual forum and threads more for that because that's what it's for. Two albums I just recently bought that were out of my comfort zone, Love-Forever Changes and Alan Parsons Project-The Turn of a Friendly Card, were because of Joes and LGs threads respectively. Magic and others got me to love a less poppy more progressive side of Journey. MetalPriest, DaKillerWolf, Prime and others have got me to listen to more Metal such as Avantasia, Ayreon, Opeth, Alesana (outside of the one album I had), etc. I will listen to the screaming/growls when I find a balance so even there I've found great gems. I used to do this a lot more and have sort of a music "trade" with people exchanging taste and open minds. I want the forum to be that way again and thanks to Garrett, Tray, Sox, etc. who've recently been putting there foot forward and my usual faithful friends and groupies  I feel that this will be a great year for that. Anyway, let me know which of you can be bothered with suggestions and to give them. I think it'll be a great experience.

Oh, and Bob, I definitely would've enjoyed the pop material! I think pop is some of the best songwriting ever! :cheers2

Awesome points (as usual) Sooty.

I know I had been interested in doing it but found out my roommate wasn't too keen on me giving our address out. I was a little bummed because I wanted someone to have this reaction ---> :omg: when they put my CD on. :oyea:

I also agree with your points on music appreciation here. That is indeed what the forum is for and it's a shame this fell through as I would have liked to have done it but sometimes things just happen. Plenty of music discussion to be had to make up for it. :cheers2

Well then, we've got 10 months or so to get this thing off the ground instead of just talking about it. Let's make it worth while :grinthumb
