The only one I have is Pompeii,I will be buying Pulse soon.I play all my music/DVD on a surround system, the Pompeii DVD isn't in 5.1 it only plays in 2.1,it's a shame.

Well since it was recorded in 1971 I could understand that it is only stereo. I've owned it since the VHS days and back then I would just turn it up loud. 5.1 is nice for moves and newer recordings but since the source material is stereo I don't think it would improve much even if remastered into 5 channels. Just run the stereo mix through all of the speakers and turn it up loud!

I would use my "Rock Concert" DSP setting if listening to a Stereo source, it really sounds good. And listening to it in Stereo or 7 channels is good as well, the flexibility these days is astonishing when it comes to playing a CD or DVD.

I still haven't picked up Live at Pompeii, I guess I should considering all the fans of that show there are in the Pink Floyd universe.:D

I loved Delicate Sound of Thunder and still have my VHS copy. And I have the DVD of Pulse which is phenomenal...both production wise and as a concert. When you look at early Floyd they are far more intimate setting wise, but to expect that from the most innovative rock band in history as far as live shows goes is unrealistic as technology got more sophisticated. I will pick up live at Pompeii just for nostalgia's sake, but it will Never surpass either Thunder or Pulse in my books.

The stage didn't need to be set up so high. That's my only complaint about it. If I'd been up front watching that, I wouldn't have been to happy about it.

If it's a Stadium concert which most of Pink Floyd's shows have been for years now they have no choice. They have to elevate the stage so the majority of the paying fans have a decent view. When I saw them play here, they had hands down the best set up of any concert I have ever seen. If you were lucky to have seats about 20 yards from the stage in dead center then you would have enjoyed a spectacle no other band can provide.

Hell even where we were sitting was epic, thanks to the time delay/speaker set up, they thought of every detail to give all of us the best show possible.

The only way I see to achieve a more intimate setting is a club, and they don't do those over here just at home in England.

Oh well, at least I saw them live, and I don't think they will tour again now that Rick has passed on.

Even though Pulse is an excellent show and Delicate Sound of Thunder was also great that is not the original Floyd IMO.. Live in Pompeii is not a live show but a "staged" show done for the cameras.. It does however feature the original lineup (except Sid Barrett of course). It also has a more "raw" feel to it compared to the polished shows on the other releases. It is also very early in their careers and in no way can compare to the stadium shows. They did not have the catalog that they had later..

I would of liked to see the original band on a good quality video release somewhere in the late seventies maybe on the "Animals" or "The Wall" tour.. It's a shame that it is not available. I do know about the "Earl's Court" video that is circulating but that is a bootleg (I think) and is not of good quality. It is believed that it was shot by the road crew since it is done from three different stationary cameras. The bootleg that is circulating on the internet seems to be quite degraded in both audio and video quality.

Here is a little more info on the Earl's Court and Nassau videos done in 80 and 81

^^I'm not sure what you mean but 'not original'...:hm:

Unless the obvious that Waters was no longer in the band.

I also would factor in the quality of the sound itself, and there is no doubt that the later DVD's would be vastly superior to the classic line-ups concerts. And that is a huge deal to me.

But as I've said before, I am not really a big collector of concert videos, MP is our resident "hoarder" when it comes to that, I've always preferred the music itself with very few exceptions.

Still I am intrigued by your synopsis about Pompeii GG, so I'll get a copy and give it a fair listen.:cheers2

Yes it is the obvious, no Roger Waters. In addition you can see them when they were still quite young. As for the sound quality of Pompeii it is quite good especially considering the time it was produced. As for concert videos I am also a hoarder. Currently I am at over 600 DVD's counting both commercial releases and bootlegs. It is "kind of" a hobby of mine {sarcasm intended}. There is a new release dubbed "The Director's Cut" and although I have only the original release it is regarded as superior to the new release in the mood it sets and it is more focused on the music instead of "extras".. The new release does include both versions. The original was a theatrical release in 1972.

Here is a peak
