Might just be my bias against that particular style, but I'm afraid I'll disagree here.
I personally think the only song from the Culture Club discography that has stood up to the test of time is "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". The rest I think lack any lasting appeal whatsoever, personally.
While, for me at least, the Police discography doesn't sound dated at all (although I'll admit Roxanne can get annoying pretty quickly).
Disappointed to see nobody mentioning Wall of Voodoo here. Despite their one (novelty) hit, they had something unique. They dove head first into the New Wave and came out with a psychotic, hypnotic mishmash of Devo, Split Enz, and (of all things) Ennio Morricone -- it was completely different from what anybody else with access to a synthesizer and a drum machine was doing at the time. They had a fully developed style that set them apart from whatever else was going on in pop music at the time, which probably explains why they never had a lot of mainstream success... and when Stan Ridgway went solo, he took most of their uniqueness with him.
