Re: "The Official" Madonna Thread

Madonna! My all time favorite solo performer. She is the very earliest musical memory for me. Mom says I used to rock back and forth in my crib when I was a baby to songs like Lucky Star and True Blue. :heheh:

What, no mention of her FABULOUS 90's work? :omg: My favorite Madonna is 90's Madonna. Like I stated before, Vogue was my earliest clear musical memory along with Express Yourself.

Anyone remember the live performance of Vogue at the VMA's? Always stuck in my mind and I was so in awe and flabbergasted when I saw it. She was so fabulous, still is!

She is the epitome of creativity and reinvention, in my opinion, and she's made a career off of developing her look and sound and transforming herself album to album, single to single. She's also a pop icon in every sense of the word, the female counterpart to Michael Jackson.

My all time favorite Madonna album is definitely Ray of Light. It was a completely different sound/era for her, with trance/electronica infusions and a little but of eastern influences (sort of reminds me of a pop version of Kashmir, with the international elements).

Favorite from the album:

My post is becoming too long so I will stop there, but I could go on forever. She is my female Led Zeppelin.

Great writeup Jen! I was going to respond at the time it was made but I spaced it! I actually like later Madonna to and "Ray Of Light" is my favorite Madonna album. After that she wasn't bad but I think that's the album where she peaked and went down after that! :)

Thank you hun!

Honestly Madonna if was to be unbiased didn't have the prettiest or most perfect vocal but she had that charismatic "it" quality in her presence and confidence in her voice that made every song under her belt perfect! :grinthumb

Not all good music has to have outstanding vocals, IMO. And if you notice, her voice changed A LOT. Listen to the difference between her self-title and Bedtime Stories! Got a lot deeper. :omg:

It did, you are right! She had a sweet quality in her earlier years I liked a little better than her sex goddess S&M stage later. Same thing with Mariah Carey. I think I like the Ray of Light material best because it's her closest to being an alternative rock artist and it had this cool spiritual mysterious vibe! :grinthumb

It did! :grinthumb I may have to give that one a listen after I'm done with The Cars. I wasn't a huge fan of Music, though! Confessions of a Dance Floor is a great dance album! She never does the same thing twice. Her best era was the Vogue era, however. That pointy bra will always be permanently burned into my memory. :heheh:

I'm not a huge fan, but I do like some of her songs, mostly live. She was cute when she was young. Now she's kind of haggy.

I really like this one.
