I recently watched Fly Jefferson Airplane - absolutely recommended to anyone into San Fran scene and this beautiful band. There's 9 parts on YT so if you can't find it anywhere, you can watch it there. Peace

There was a Beatles documentary called The Complete Beatles. It's probably close to 25 years old. It was on video at the tiime, don't know if it has come to DVD, but it was really good, and is recomended viewing if you like the Beatles.

I watched this video several times and it never gets old. Amazing what George Martin contributed to the band.

Recently watched "I'm Not There", complex and arty review of Bob Dylan's career. He's portrayed as actor, music celebrity, Rimbaud, Woody Guthrie, Billy The Kid and a troubadour. Movie is hard to get if you don't know some facts about Dylan's work and life, but really good movie for fans.

Breathing life into perhaps another tired old thread.
I recently watched a few music documentaries and wondered if there was a place around here to share thoughts and opinions for those who are interested.
I just finished watching a very modest, short, and probably forgettable documentary called Rainbow: In Their Own Words. It was produced in 2006.
While I do enjoy listening to many of Rainbow’s albums, I’ve never read extensively about the personalities of band and not seen much about them in many other rock history documentaries.
In Their Own Words is a little weak and quite basic. It covers a few major points in the development and life of the band but glosses over other points we might like to know.
As I say, this is the first documentary of Rainbow I have watched so of course I did learn a few things. Not enough to want to watch the feature more than once. It does feature short bits of live performances, band member interviews, and covers many of the personnel changes during all of the bands albums. Just not enough details. 5/10

Another recent music documentary I watched was Travelin Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival At The Royal Albert Hall. This is more about the band performing at Albert Hall and very brief
history up to that point. I think the performance was 1971 perhaps. The band had only released their first three albums, played at Woodstock and were one of the most successful if not the hottest band at that time. This was touted as live performance footage not seen before and the band does sound great. It really reaffirmed my liking and admiration of their music watching them perform live. But again, the documentary did not tell us enough about the band members personalities, home life and history. Maybe it’s not meant to. But these things are kind of interesting and expected in most musical artist documentaries.

The Compleat Beatles is easily my favorite music documentary. So very good. It talks about the early life of the band members, the music that influenced the band, the high points and low points of Beatlemania, and many interesting things about The Beatles so very well.
Malcolm McDowell narrates it. It was produced to VHS around 1984 maybe and I don’t think it’s been released on dvd. This is the only advantage that Ron Howard’s Eight Days A Week has by comparison. I still think The Compleat Beatles should be considered the essential Beatles documentary.
