I know there's a lot of amateur crap on youtube but there is also a lot of talent as well! Doing covers is a great way to start to get your name around and some of the covers are actually very impressive and have some great creative takes on the originals. Better or not? Who gives a shit! :heheh: It's cool to see interpretations! My favorites are stripped down versions of darker or heavier songs. Here is a place I'll use to put ones that actually impress me. I'll go from just dudes/chicks in their own house/rooms to small scale shows by bands that haven't broken out yet.

First here's a NIN cover of Hurt by the band Blindside Poets. They said they wanted to keep it closer to the original than Cash's but said it was hard to not be swayed by Cash's. What I got was a fresh version of a song that's great but played to death. This gives it a Jazzy soulful feel for the first time.

Here's some band covering Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand"

I don't expect anyone to watch the entire duration of the video, but I think they did a great job.

You may remember a track from 2008 entitled "When Love Takes Over" by Sir Doucheness himself, Mr. David Guetta with vocals by Kelly Rowland. It was a terrible song but I always thought it had potential to be enjoyable if it were stripped down because underneath the electronic bullshit it had a sound melody.

Well thanks to Youtube, here is a piano and vocal only cover, which I like a hell of a lot more than the original:

Hey everyone, I've decided to post all originals to each song for instant comparison to hear what each artist did differently. This is especially helpful if one doesn't know the original! :grinthumb

@ Magic-I have to say I like the original on that one. It's actually an R & B song not trying to be hip-hop (though it does have boring beats which weight it down) and is just a sweet tune with a nice vocal tone similar to Toni Braxtons. Having said that I like the cover better. The pure acoustics and the gorgeous sexy vocal are perfect and shows just as much soul without the tedious beats. Thanks for that one!

@ Spore-I listened to the Zeppelin one and I have to say I like the vocalist in the cover band more! :grinthumb But all cred to Zeppelin in general since it's my first time hearing that particular track, they created a cool epic track and I see why the band would choose it to cover.

@ Sal-You know Kelly Rowland is as good of a vocalist as any. In fact, I'll take her (or honestly almost anyone) over Beyonce anyday. I think the song is much better stripped down without the electro beats though and that's a very competent singer covering it!

I was looking through covers of my favorite Aerosmith song "What It Takes" because I thought "What a challenging song that would be!" and that'd be badass if anyone could pull something even close to quality off! I'd never heard a cover of it by anyone professional or otherwise so I was up for the searching. I know noone can top it but I found a version I dug! It was two young kids and I was thinking "Oh no!!!!". I didn't think had a chance at this song. It takes lung power like no other but they pulled it off great with some minor flaws (the kid was streching his vocals a little) which is fine. Honestly the vocals gave it a Hanson vibe but that works for me because it gave it a unique vibe. The Harmonies were good and the only part I disliked was the "Let It Go" ending which was weak! Overall these kids have potential!

You do have to admit David Guetta has something over just about every other pop prooducer (except mark ronson..... he is god) His songs are always just that little bit more listenable than the other crap going around

Nothing, absolutely nothing, can top the original "Konstantine" by Something Corporate but these guys do it justice and do a commendable cover! :grinthumb Tons of people have covered this and this is by far the best cover of it!!! :grinthumb Don't ask what the hell the random noise is at 3:20 because I have no idea!!!! :lmao:

Oh for sure, in some of her other songs I enjoyed her vocals just as much. There's no question that she's got a good set of pipes! It's just the people she works with who I don't like as much, and more recently Bruno Mars is in much the same boat for me.

Sorry but no can do. I have not heard a single song from him yet that I like and would willingly listen to.
