Re: Official Beach Boys Thread

I have several versions of Smile, both on tape and album (which cost me $55.)
Brian was really tough to work with, as this clip displays. But the guys followed his vision as far as they could.

I only know Pet Sounds, which I like a lot. Anyone can recommend me a second album to try?

It's pretty radically different from Pet Sounds, but Surf's Up is very good too, particularly the title track, but also "Long Promised Road," Bruce Johnston's gorgeous and evocative "Disney Girls," and "'Till I Die."

If you want something more in line with the general feel of Pet Sounds, I'd recommend The Beach Boys Today or Summer Days (and Summer Nights).

Mid-60s Beach Boys

I searched the forum and didn't find a thread on this. Are there any fans of SMiLE-era Beach Boys and afterwords? The band got a lot of flack at this time because they couldn't follow up Pet Sounds, but I think their creativity was at its peak around 67-69. Anyone agree?

"Darlin'" is my favorite Beach Boys song. It's from 1967.
