A quick personal guide to Rory's studio albums.

"Firstly Rory never released a 'bad' album in his entire recording career either with the two studio albums with 'Taste' or as a 'solo artist' with his own 'Rory Gallagher band' nor did he like many other bands and artists ever record or release any 'filler tracks' on any of his 11 studio albums either because EVERY SONG that he recorded is a good song in it's own right."

My top three Gallagher albums are-

1.Rory Gallagher 1971
2.Calling Card 1976
3.Fresh Evidence 1990

Just under my top three are-

4.Against The Grain 1975
5.Tattoo 1974

The rest which were all good albums to listen to are-

6.Deuce 1971
7.Blueprint 1973
8.Photo Finish 1978
9.Top Priority 1979
10.Jinx 1982
11.Defender 1987

Nice one Ian. I originally 'got into' Rory back in the mid-1980s and was pretty big on him towards the latter part of his life in the late 1980s (the Defender album era) and the early 1990s (the Fresh Evidence album era) and even went over to Cork in Ireland back in 1993 to try and find where he lived only to discover after his death that he lived in a flat around the Earl's Court area of London from 1969 until the late 1980s where he subsequently moved to another apartment flat at the Chelsea Harbour complex near to the river Thames in the early 1990s. I saw him play live with his band at the Town And Country club in Kentish Town in north London on three separate occasions in 1988, 1990 & 1992. It was a sad day when I heard the news that he had died back in June 1995.

Recently I have been getting back into Rory's albums and his Taste albums and am really enjoying listening to his albums once again.

I have been chatting lately over the last maybe 2-months to a 'quiet and unassuming' guy at my local tube station during the early morning rush hour or for our American cousins 'subway station' and during our conversations about classical and rock music primarily from the early 1970s he mentioned that he is a 'music teacher' at a school just outside London and a few days go he 'DROPPED A BOMBSHELL' when he told me that he had played on stage with Rory Gallagher!!. WHAT!!!!!??. Anyway it is true I have seen the pictures and this was towards the end of Rory's time circa 1992-1993 before Rory sadly passed away in 1995 and this morning he mentioned that he had played some keyboards on Rory's final London gig at the Kentish Town Town and Country club back in October 1992 a gig that I attended myself but he didn't usually speak about it being a fairly quiet individual. It just goes to show you the most unlikely people had a story to tell..

Anyway I asked him what was Rory like before going on stage and he said that Rory would be alone away from the other guys in his band until it was time to go on stage also Rory had asked him if he wanted to have a play of Rory's 'trade mark' battered 1961 Stratocaster but he told Rory that he wouldn't want to hold it because it was Rory's guitar but he thanked Rory all the same for the offer.
