Been thinking this morning, I’ve probably bought/downloaded around 40+ new albums this year, that’s just 2012 new releases, not oldies or back catalogue stuff, so I average about 1 new album a week (and I’m not including classical and jazz, I get a lot of that too)...so probably not as many as some people on here, but it's as much as I have time for these days.

So it’s mid-December, and maybe you can consider what your best albums of 2012 were?

I’ll list my Top 20 - in carefully considered order of rating/preference - if anyone else wants to share their Best of 2012 then do so, it doesn’t have to be 20 albums, just as many as you like. Needs thinking about though so that you don’t leave anything out (which I just did 3 or 4 times, and I had to keep revising it)

BEST ALBUMS of 2012

1. Mark Knopfler – Privateering
2. Bruce Springsteen – Wrecking Ball
3. Bob Dylan – Tempest
4. Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Americana
5. Neil Young and Crazy Horse – Psychedelic Pill
6. Rush – Clockwork Angels
7. Leonard Cohen – Old Ideas
8. Aerosmith – Music from Another Dimension
9. Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day
10. Soundgarden – King Animal
11. Jack White – Blunderbuss
12. Gaslight Anthem – Hand Written
13. Taylor Swift – Red
14. Dr. John – Locked Down
15. Martha Wainwright – Come Home to Mama
16. The Killers – Battle Born
17. Van Halen – A Different Kind of Truth
18. The Beach Boys – That’s why God made the Radio
19. Smashing Pumpkins – Oceania
20. Linkin Park – Living Things

Similarly, I finish for work Christmas next Wednesday, so will think it through over a talisker whisky after that event. Not easy, it's been a great year for music.

I've only brought 2 Albums from 2012 (even though I've been finding newer stuff that I like), and I've been pretty happy with those albums being:

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again (I've got the Deluxe edition)
Deep Sea Arcade - Outlands

Of the 2 I've probably played Outlands more cause the music draws me in, but the other album is very good too.

I did originally do them in a video for my journal. I may re-do them as I have yet to hear the new Bruce Springsteen CD, new Enslaved and Kamelot albums.
Rock albums for me I really loved, in fact would go in my top 20 favourites would be Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Soundgarden,, Rush and Smashing Pumpkins for sure. But my list will include metal as well. Been the best year for metal in a long time.

This year I was focused more on TV and film than on music, but the releases that I just had to get really blew me completely away.

5. Songs From District 12 and Beyond -- Various (The Hunger Games)
4. Warrior -- Ke$ha
2. (tie) Americana -- Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2. (tie) Psychedelic Pill -- Neil Young & Crazy Horse
1. Red -- Taylor Swift
