Re: The Yes Thread

Just finished listening to the new album. It's not bad. The only thing I would say is that there's not a lot of the energy I've come to know from a Yes album. At times it's too airy. Nothing really stands out instrumentally. I'd say the last song is the best..Into The Storm

And what's so special about the Japanese that they get a bonus track?

Marketing on 2 levels I think... first of all Japan always gets a bonus track for supporting bands that can't get played in the West for the last 20 years. Secondly, it's an incentive for the western fans to buy the import. Vicious cycle...

And yeah... the album is a bit airy but not too bad overall IMO

There are a couple songs on BG I can do without, but overall I like it. The sound quality isn't the greatest though.

I just felt 90125 was such a great album the drop off to Big Generator was immense.

Whalerfan, you really should look into their early catalog, it's quintessential Yes and a big part of the reason they are the most successful progressive rock band in history.

I haven't got the new album yet, but I'll give it a fair listen. TUNEZ is right the labels do that all the time, we buy the "regular" release and Japan gets a song or two more. It's especially evident for almost all the European metal bands I like, the Japanese have steadfastly supported those artists for years and so they get a bonus for their loyalty.

Re: The Yes Thread

^^I'll play the new Yes album today for the first time...but Knowing Jon Anderson is not part of it my expectations are not too high. Nothing against Benoit, but you can't expect anyone to fill Jon's shoes, after all Yes has been releasing albums since the late 60's and his voice is one of the most unique in rock music.
