Appetite For Destruction Guns-n-Roses (1987)

Between Appetite For Destruction and Nirvana's Nevermind. Both were huge sellers, and each release a milestone in rock music; and in their own different ways trend-setters. However, Appetite seems to be the stronger album in writing and is just plain fun to listen to. Grunge has it's good points, obviously, but Nevermind is not a fun listen. No denying the greatness of either of these, but Appetite grabs the spotlight, here. It's a good time, and is therefore more fondly remembered.

No album has been released since then, that had the same or greater effect on me.

Just as a neutral party, the reply you gave to The Sound's reply(in my opinion) was rather inflammatory.

Yeah, reading it now I can see how it sounded quite dismissive. I probably should've been clearer in my initial post too about wanting to hear opinions for "Best Albums" instead of "groundbreaking albums (be it good or bad)" which I think a few people think I meant.

I think we may have a winner here. Every song is either good or great and a couple are classics.

This would be my vote too.

Thanks for the clarification. Text has such a horrible reputation for transmitting inflection and intention. (One of the main reasons I don't text on phones)

Another historic album, even more recent than Appetite For Destruction is Jack White's masterpiece..........

Don't know if it's the last one, but it's up there.

As far as Born In The USA, I think it's a landmark album, but not because of the music.

Don't get me wrong, because I love the album. Bobby Jean, Downbound Train and No Surrender are my favorites.

It's got all the usual Boss album ingredients.

Angst, melancholy, loss, blue collar, trips down memory lane. It's all there, sure enough.

What makes this a landmark, to me anyway, is that Bruce reinvented himself.

He went into the gym, got in shape, got a haircut, took a shower and put on a clean shirt.

And can anyone tell me why?

Well, MTV, of course.

He knew that he had to be presentable, and it worked.

Heck, even my mom 'discovered' him because of Dancing in the Dark

She didn't believe me when I told her I has 4-5 of his albums. :gig

It's also the first time the entire album is cut in a top 40 format, with the longest cut not even reaching the 5 minute mark.

^^That's almost a 'book' for you old man.:gig

You make some good arguments for both, I don't think anyone can dispute that Back in Black is the most successful album for a band replacing a famous frontman with a new one after a tragic death.

Born in the USA is a great record, I thought so at the time it came out and still do. It doesn't matter to me that it spawned a plethora of hit songs, after all Springsteen paid his dues and them some.
