Clapton and Harrison were like best friends. So much so than when Harrison found out that Clapton was into his wife, George asked him if he loved her and Eric said "yes"... George said that then they should be together. That wife was Pattie Boyd. Clapton supposedly wrote Layla and Wonderful Tonight with her in mind. She was still with George during that time period.

Thanks, I remember reading about the whole "wife" episode, but I mistakenly thought that it ruined their friendship. Neither one of them stayed with Pattie Boyd, in the end, did they? All of that seems so odd and hurtful.

depends on how you look at it. If someone loves someone enough to let them go to someone else that makes them happy, some might call that nearly an ultimate act of love.

As far as their friendship, I don't remember reading anything about Eric and George's friendship waivering over that whole thing. Both guys were married to her for about 10 years. Considering how long the likes of Hollywood and the George Clooneys of the world go through women, I'd say their numbers aren't too horrible. Can't be easy being married to a living legend either. *shrug*

That's true. The late Mickey Rooney had eight wives! Paul McCartney seemed to get it right with Linda, but after she died, I have no idea what he was thinking about with Heather Mills. That went south pretty fast. His kids never liked her, and his youngest daughter Stella punched Heather. Anyway, I think George was really happy with Olivia. Amazing how his son looks just like him.

It's a great solo anyway, but I certainly wouldn't mind another minute or so of this, and to me it's always sounded like the fade out comes in before the end of Mark Knopfler's solo (possibly due to time constraints on the LP?).

^^^ that's a cool song, I don't think I have heard it before. The only album of theirs that I own is Brothers in Arms which is a nice album, but something I haven't listened to much in years. Other than that, I constantly have to hear Sultans of Swing on the radio (seems like a daily thing for FM radio to play that track at least once) and occassionally Industrial Disease.
If they had more tracks like the one you just posted, I think I'd own all of their albums.

Haha thanks for the info lynch. I've loved this song for years but never knew Eric played on it. Bit disappointed to discover my favourite guitar playing by George isn't even him!
Such a great song though, and deserves longer in my opinion

^^Did you see the all star ensemble at the RRHOF that paid tribute to George LLG?
I'm not a fan of his generally but Prince played a marvelous guitar solo, I'm sure George was smiling watching from above.
I haven't seen it no. I was given the dvd as a present a few Christmas's ago but still haven't got round to watching it! I will do though, I love George and feel sorry for him having to compete with John and Paul. Bless him
