Re: Daily, Nightly and Ever So Rightly II *Chat Thread*

I looked it up, his name is Joseph Kittinger. On August 16, 1960, he made the final jump, from the Excelsior III, at 102,800 feet (31,300 m).[2] Towing a small drogue parachute for initial stabilization, he fell for 4 minutes and 36 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 614 miles per hour (988 km/h)[4][5] before opening his parachute at 18,000 feet (5,500 m). Pressurization for his right glove malfunctioned during the ascent, and his right hand swelled to twice its normal size.[6][7] Ignoring the pain, he rode the balloon up to 102,800 feet and said a short prayer — “Lord, take care of me now” — before stepping off.

So if that information is correct, he opened his parachute sooner! Hmmmm!!

Oh wait... the answer is easy, he jumped from a higher altitude? But everyone is saying that Baumgartner broke that record?

I can't imagine doing that, both of them have courage that I don't possess.

This wasn't just a "stunt" for it's own sake which is what I thought right away...but an actual feasible test of escaping from an orbiting spacecraft in case of disaster, which is kind of cool when I think about it.
