My guess would be a worn out or cheap needle. Unless you use subpar needles or worn needles vinyl doesn't wear out.
In fact , the needle wears out instead. If you continue to use a worn out needle then that needle starts to damage ( not wear out ) the album.
Cheapie needles have much the same effect.

You are right! It was because of a cheap needle and to much weight for sure. It was one of my absolute favorite albums at the time where the first pressing was released.
