Here is another top 20 list. Deep Purple fans can celebrate. The list is from Holland and obviously they like Deep Purple. Most of the songs are similar to the U.S. but there are a few notable exceptions.

1 Child in time Deep Purple....

And just to prove that these lists are totally subjective to the age of the respondents...

...AND to point out that half the listeners don't even know their historical facts, & vote purely on emotion...

The people who call Deep Purple's admittedly musically excellent performance of "Child in Time" the best song ever are actually voting for a song that was STOLEN from the San Francisco group It's a Beautiful Day & PLAGIARIZED (without any credit) by Deep Purple!

Here is a clip of It's a Beatiful Day's "Bombay Calling" from their self titled 1969 release:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=50:5xj9kett7q7m~T

If you take the time to listen, there is no mistaking the origins of the song...much like Jake Holme's original version of "Dazed & Confused" which was also stolen, uncredited, by Jimmy Page.

Deep Purple stole the song from It's a Beautiful Day about a year after DP Mach 1 was 2nd on the bill to It's a Beautiful Day @ the Fillmore in November of '68...

"Bombay Calling" was IABD's 2nd most famous song, after "White Bird" (off their very successful debut album that got tons of airplay).

if 100 people were to pick 100 best songs i'm sure that most wouldn't pick the same 100. as for myself my musical tastes are vast and my favourite would be picked at by many i'm sure i cannot give any particular order but i guess some in my top hundred would be by the following bands journey, the beatles, the sex pistols, guns n roses, nirvana, black sabbath, ac/dc, the move, the small faces, hendrix, vain, saxon, iron maiden, rolling stones , boston, to name but a few... as for particular songs well it changes to the mood i'm in... but someone will always disagree even if it was top 1,000 in no particular order there would be someones favourite missing.... lists who needs them lol...

I
ps. Ok, now I'm REALLY pissed. I was forced to put on my reading glasses to check the dictionary and make shure I was spelling the word "compromise" correctly.

you have to use the tool that completely ruined my generation.................spell check:bow: -------- I used to be good at spelling any word I wanted, I probably still am, but just too lazy haha

and to the lists, I find it too hard to make a list because you'd have to have absolutely not opinion on the matter, no preference, and the inability for the sound to influence you, and just about infinite musical knowledge, but this is all impossible so it's impossible to say what the ''best'' song is, for some it may be the song that rocks the hardest, or that has the most amount of music packed into the smallest amount of time, but for your guys' lists, come on? no steely dan, foghat, or eagles? I'm dissapointed:phones:

honestly you guys, stairway to heaven placed third????

Third is incredibly good!

Why would you call the list disgraceful? Must a list validate your every opinion before it's anything but disgraceful? Or must it merely have "Stairway to Heaven" right at the very top?

:wtf:

BTW, "When the Levee Breaks" is a better track anyway.

:D
