I've seen many lists and Satifaction has been #1 on many of them. Other #1 songs I've seen have been Stairway to Heaven, Hey Jude, Freebird, Like A Rolling Stone and A Day In The Life. Just about every list had satisfaction in the top 10. I believe it justly deserves to be in the top 10 but it would be very hard to find a #1 song everyone would agree with. I know a lot of people who cannot stand Stairway To Heaven. One glaring omission is the absense of House Of The Rising sun by the Animals.

5 Radar love Golden Earring

11 Whole lotta Rosie AC/DC
12 School Supertramp
13 Music John Miles
14 Private investigations Dire Straits
15 Kayleigh Marillion
16 A whiter shade of pale Procol Harum
17 More than a feeling Boston
18 Riders on the storm Doors

This is just my top 10, but for real, I could have three different top 10s, one for Zeppelin, one for Beatles and one for all the rest.
1. Stairway to Heaven-Zep
2. All Along the Watchtower-Jimi
3. Hotel California-Eagles
4. Don't Fear the Reaper-BOC
5. ooooohooooo That Smell-Lynard Skynard
6. Paranoid-Sabbath
7. Revolution-Beatles
8. Can't Always Get What You Want-Stones
9. Bohemian Rhapsody-Queen
10. Comfortably Numb-Pink Floyd

I would have to agree Radar Love would not be on my top 100 or even top 1000 songs but I hear it all the time on the radio. It must have a fan base somewhere. But there were other songs from The Netherlands I would not have chose either. School by Supertramp, Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC. Different strokes for different folkes, and so on and so on. As for your top 10 I have to admit you do have excellant taste. One of these days I will list Germany's top 20. Talk about weird. Later Dude.

Pretty commercially/Top 40 radio biased. I fucking hate "Hotel California," having heard the thing a bloody zillion times. Springsteen has some good stuff, but "Born To Run" ain't a part of it. There are just too many lesser-celebrated songs that are overlooked but more deserving of praise than ones on that list.

In my opinion, Stairway to Heaven is the best rock song ever composed.
IMO, Stairway IS one of the greatest rock songs of our time, but I find Kashmir to be better written, composed, and preformed. It stands out much more to me. You can disagree with that, of course.

This is the only song in the entire 100 that I'd actually want to listen to again. The rest are so obvious and over-played. It's like a tracklist on those bargain triple CDs you can buy at petrol stations.

What amazes me is the fact that there is absolutely no agreement on what would constitute a legit list these days (judging from the thread thus far). I can remember a time when there was almost universal agreement that "Stairway To Heaven" and "Layla" were the two greatest rock songs ever.

I think what happens now is that you have 50 years of rock music and several generations of listeners with very widely varying tastes. Consensus? Forget it! Ain't gonna happen!
