The Black Album ..the beginning of the artistic decline of Metallica
I agree, to an extent... but I still totally dig that album. It's good from start to finish. Is it as "raw" as their first couple of albums, of course not. How many bands sound as raw 5 albums in as they did on their first. That doesn't make it bad though as some people say it is.

While it is a decent album IMO and certainly is a far more mainstream effort it certainly isn't a "better" Metallica album guitar playing wise, then their earlier material . And Justice For All is a much more
complex and interestingly, intricate collection of guitar work for instance .

TBA was streamlined and simplified in order to appeal to a more massive mainstream crowd . Stiffing ones creativity for the ( admitted ) sake of popularity (i.e. cash ) is not something that will result in a more creative and progressive ( as in forward thinking ) guitar playing output .

you'll get no arguement out of me on that one. In my honest opinion (and I've said this for years), AJFA is probably the best overall album Metallica ever did and quite honestly, I'd consider it the Heavy Metal Bible from the mid-80's and beyond.

IDK I found Ride The Lightning to be their best effort.

AJFA is probably my third favorite album by them followed by Master Of Puppets.

I just think there are much better albums then the ones he had listed.

BTW I did not say he should have put others on the list haha. I just said that I would have had a different list because there have been much better guitar albums out in the last 20 years.

I now know where this list came from, it was announced by Zakk Wylde but the list was voted by the readers and staff of Gibson.com. This list is actually a top 50 guitar albums, but Zakk announced the top 10.

For further details look Here, Gibson.com and watch the video where Zakk talks in detail about all 10 albums on the list plus you can see all 50 albums :)
