Tom Petty is apparently on the cusp of announcing a first-ever concert appearance at Boston’s Fenway Park. A photo of the ballpark’s familiar hand-operated green scoreboard — updated with Petty and his band The Heartbreakers’ names —
was posted to their facebook page earlier today.
An announcement of expanded 2014 dates, presumably including this Boston date, is expected any day now. Petty posted a U.S. map, with the words “coming soon,” on Sunday.
Thus far, Petty has only a pair of festival stops set for this year — 'Outside Lands' in August at San Francisco and the 'Lockn’ Festival' in September at Arrington, Virginia. The Heartbreakers’ last major tour ended in June 2013. Petty and The Heartbreakers are set to release a new studio album, Hypnotic Eye, at some point this summer.
Fenway is already slated to play host to Billy Joel this summer. Bruce Springsteen, the Police and the Dave Matthews Band have played there in the past.
