1966 Supergroup Cream released their debut studio album 'Fresh Cream' in the UK. The three piece of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker also released their second single 'I Feel Free' on the same day.

2003 Ozzy Osbourne crashes his quad bike, breaking several bones, including his collarbone, and fracturing vertebrae. The injuries are considerable, but not life-threatening.

2005 Mike Botts (drummer for Bread) dies of colon cancer the day after his 61st birthday in Burbank, California.

1967 American soul singer, songwriter Otis Redding was killed in a plane crash, aged 26. Redding and his band had made an appearance in Cleveland, Ohio on the local ‘Upbeat’ television show the previous day. The plane carrying Otis Redding and his band crashed at 3.28.pm into icy waters of Lake Monoma near Madison. Redding was killed in the crash along with members from the The Bar-Kays, Jimmy King, Ron Caldwell, Phalin Jones and Carl Cunningham. Trumpet player Ben Cauley was the only person to survive the crash.

2007 Led Zeppelin played their first concert in 19 years, at London's 02 Arena as part of the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones were joined on stage by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham. More than one million people had taken part in a ballot for the 20,000 tickets available for the show with all proceeds going to Ahmet's own charity. Zeppelin performed 16 songs including two encores. A number of celebrities attended the gig including Dave Grohl, Jeff Beck, Brian May, David Gilmour, The Edge, Peter Gabriel, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jerry Hall, Priscilla Presley and Paris Hilton.

2021 Mike Nesmith, guitarist for The Monkees, died of natural causes at his home, surrounded by family. He was 78.

2021 Les Emerson, guitarist for Five Man Electrical Band died of COVID-19 at the age of 77. His band is most often remembered for their 1971, Billboard #3 hit, "Signs", which warned us that "Long haired, freaky people need not apply."

1961 The Marvelettes went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Please Mr Postman'. The session musicians on the track included 22 year old Marvin Gaye on drums. The song gave The Carpenters a US No.1 and UK No.2 single in 1975.

1982 Singer, TV actress and dancer Toni Basil went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Mickey', making her a US One Hit Wonder. Also a No.2 hit in the UK, the song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn as 'Kitty', and was first recorded by UK group Racey during 1979.

1940 Dionne Warwick is born Marie Dionne Warwick in East Orange, New Jersey.

1941 Terry Kirkman (of The Association) is born in Salina, Kansas.

1943 Dickey Betts (lead guitarist for The Allman Brothers Band) is born Forrest Richard Betts in West Palm Beach, Florida.

1947 Ralph Scala (keyboardist, vocalist for Blues Magoos) is born in The Bronx, New York.

1985 Ian Stewart, the original keyboard player for The Rolling Stones, dies of a heart attack in London, England, at age 47. Stewart stepped down from the group because his image didn't suit them. He became the group's road manager and played on some of their songs.
