I bought the new 'early era' Thin Lizzy cd release called Acoustic Sessions yesterday 24/01/25 on the day that it was released in the UK. This cd is released on DECCA records and is the first new material released of Thin Lizzy from the Decca record label since 1973 or 1974. Eric Bell plays on all the 9-tracks that are on the cd and overall it is a good listen although a bit short on running time coming in at around 35-40 minutes overall.
Despite the name of the cd being called 'Acoustic Sessions' Eric does plays some electric guitar on some of the tracks with the tracks on offer being-
Mama Nature Says
A Song For While I'm Away
Eire
Dublin
Slow Blues E.B.
Whiskey In The Jar
Here I Go Again
Shades Of A Blue Orphanage
Remembering Pt.2
The sound is 'bright' and Phil's vocals sound clear and to the fore in the mix while Eric's guitar sounds good throughout. I think Brian Downey is featured on several of the tracks as well although a few don't have any drums on them. The only 'downer' is Whiskey In The Jar there UK 'hit single' from 1972 because the Eric Bell Irish sounding 'guitar intro' plus the 'guitar solo' after the second verse has been totally omitted for some reason and in fact I read in a rock music magazine that Eric mentions this which he didn't agree with but for some reason the guy producing the cd decided to omit both the guitar intro and the guitar solo rendering the song fairly meaningless in my opinion.
*This cd has been issued as a E.P. 'Extended Play' by Decca and not a full album for some reason?.
