you know, the record company guys.
I think they deserve their own thread.
It seems the least I could do.

guys like Clive Davis and Rick Rubin don't get their pictures on the covers but they have a lot to do with what goes inside.
Take Clive Davis, PLEASE!

Re: The Suits

I was delighted with the way he was presented in the movie "Ray"
romanticized?
soitanly, but it gave the guy his due, and I thought is was respectful.

I think the BIGGEST difference between the music industry now and then is THOSE guys.
the guys with the ears.
the guys who trusted their guts every once in a while.

Respectful it was. But I think the BIGGEST difference between then and now was that the suits with the ears running the indies had a chance to compete with the suits with the wallets running the majors.

thanks, maybe I oughta read that before I do my bit on him.
I respect the guy...
I mean Santana, The Kinks, he really knew how to position those guys in the market in a way that would bring in NEW fans while kicking up the rock and making all the old fans come out the woodwork.

so...
even though I think the guys some type of genius, I also think he's a bit of a Glory Hound, you know?
like maybe he toots his own horn a little too much.

Here's to John Hammond. If he hadn't "gotten" him,and told the world he was cool, Dylan would be on the same bargin bin with the Kingston Trio and the Brothers Four. Ditto Springsteen.

you know, I think it could happen again.
look at that whole Manchester scene in England in the 80's.
Or all the Indie bands on Sub Pop and SST when 'grunge' broke.
people got signed and people got rich.
not the artists of couse but I think something like that could happen again.

people are hungry for new stuff.
when the Big Boys play it safe, when something new comes to the table, they get there late.

that's presuming that there IS a new trend.
stranger things have happened.
