Well there are plenty of metal fans that actually do ditch a band completely even the good stuff because they are apparently sellouts or they just went shit. A lot of Metallica fans did that during the napster saga. Its fine to disagree, Im just stating what I have observed, I think there are fans who do stupidly ditch a band completely over stupid shit like that.

That is a trend of the new generation so I can't speak on that. I know that most the older Metal/ Hard Rock fans still like the old music that they liked and don't down grade the old stuff just because of what the band does later in life.
But then again many "metalheads" or fans today are part of the pop crowd ..(who always have been fickle as hell )..something that was unheard of in my era. You find them bring those same attitudes that they had in other genes into metal... Also there are those who only follow nothing but underground bands but those are usually kids too.

Whatever the case, Metal fans are far more loyal and less fickle as a whole then any pop gatherings...And also being loyal only to underground band is not really fickle by definition in a sense because it is a set pattern that remains fixed and is not swayed by which ever way the wind blows popular opinion

Maybe you're right there about the different era of being around. Really the only thing that bugs me of all of it is just a sheep mentality some of todays metal heads tend to have regarding bands. Formulate your own opinion, don't be closed off to other opinions but don't rely on just that to form your own. That would be what I would say to a lot of the younger generation of metal fans today. Even if one band they like does a bad run of albums, there are lots and lots of great bands to choose from. :D
Discover as much great metal as possible, sticking to only a few could end up being bad in the long run especially if those few bands take a path they dislike.

That is what I have always done. And believe it or not that is the attitude of all of the people I see as real metalheads. There are always going be followers in any crowd but there are generally less in Metal because Metal goes against the sheep herd by nature ( excluding the popular "in" scenes of core-metal and nu-metal...even though they may or may not be that "in" anymore, they were at one time, thus drawing in more follower types ) . But there are always those kids just trying be 'in' with the rebels so to speak...

This is exactly what I meant about creating a thread... and then having the whole thing high jacked and veering miles off-topic by people with a different agenda, I mean it's not as if there aren't like a quarter of a million other threads around here where headbangers can compare notes, I'm just amazed the Favourite Cheese thread hasn't been turned into a debate over Marilyn Manson's true sexuality or something. Still, we live and learn I guess.

lol what agenda?? I had no agenda, sure my bad for going off topic but me and DKW were having a pretty good discussion. I would like to think compared to other thread derailings this one was not on the argumentative side. Well I don't argue anyway.

I am sorry about the thread derailing, The Sound.

The devil made them do it.

I appreciate the fact that DKW and Riff Raff are having an intelligent and interesting discussion. But we also need to keep The Sound's thread on topic.......

There are some really creepy songs posted so far.....skeery songs. I thought I would post a song that is Classic Billy Idol, but also creepy and based on an old scary movie "Eyes Without a Face"......the female chant in the song, 'Les yeux sans visage' is French for 'eyes without a face'.

Eyeswithoutaface_poster.jpg

a creepy sidenote to this song and video........Billy Idol temporarily lost his eyesight while filming the video because his contact lenses got melted to his eyes from getting too close to the fire and smoke effects.

I've been enjoyed this thread TS - some real creepy tracks have been posted - so thanks for starting it! It has gone off on a tangent, but I think most threads do that at some point, from semi-relevant to subjects that have nothing whatsoever to do with the thread! I'm sure none us meant to derail the thread, it's just like with any conversation you can get side-tracked and can easily end up rattling on about something else :)

Here's another couple of songs I thought of that I think suit this thread

Vanilla Fudge - Season of the Witch

Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You

Whoopee, back on topic, thanks Magic/Tray!!:grinthumb

Couple here, I thought one of the best (though not scariest) vampire movies of the past 20 years or so was The Lost Boys, had a great Thomas Newman soundtrack actually, also Echo and the Bunnymen doing People Are Strange, the old Doors track, and also this by Gerald McMahon...

For sure one of the creepiest soundtracks was John Carpenter's music for the Halloween movies, the movies themselves got pretty silly by the time they got to about the 5th sequel, and Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis were still getting stalked by the seemingly indestructible Michel Myers 25 years after we'd all thought they'd killed him, but the theme tune seems to have taken on slightly iconic status, and is probably as famous now as the actual movie itself...

Horror scores are the best when you truly want to make a thread about creepy music. Carpenter said that his movie wouldn't have been scary at all without that music. The other movie that truly benefits in creepiness from it's score is The Omen!
