I actually like some of Manson's stuff ( though it certainly isn't shocking to me) but Slipnot I just find really goofy.

Yeah there's quite a bit of stuff by MM that I really like, and I've never found him creepy in the least, I actually find him quite fascinating.

Slipknot have to be the most over rated metal band around. A lot of people say the same of Metallica but they at least have decent enjoyable music. lol

You know I always ask myself if I'm missing something when it comes to Slipknot, I've never been able to work out why they are as highly rated as they are

Ditto. I know lots of young (so called) metalheads and most of them love Slipknot. It's not that I haven't listened to any of their stuff, I don't get and like it. To me this band makes others pushed onto another side, like there is nothing else than them.

Slipknot can actually be quite melodic and write some great anthemic stuff, which maybe why some hard-core thrashers don't like them, here's my favourite track by them I think, though there are so many...

Actually, alot of thrash is way more melodic, guitar wise, then Slipnot could ever think of being. And I like alot of music, everything from Heavy 70's stuff, to blues rock, southern rock, a bit of Jazz, Zappa, The Beatles, The Doors, progressive rock, all kinds of different forms of metal...the list goes on ..... I even like symphonic prog and symphonic metal ( Nightwish etc. ), so yeah, that's not the reason. The reason I don't like them is they sound like crap to these ears.
On top of that ,they look stupid in their little kid Halloween costumes, trying to be scary. I guess they scare some people, but for the life of me I can't figure out why Halloweenie gear scares grown people or even teenagers.

They also say some of the lamest things.."We don't wear masks, this is really us. That's a mask you have on" said to guy wearing no mask
and try to pretend their play acting at monsters is some "deep" philosophical thing. In fact it's just a ploy to get little kids to buy their stuff ie Mayor McCheese, Ronald McDonald,The Hamburgilar, Kiss ( at least they don't pretend to be"deep") ...etc.

Aside from just the way they sound, there are a lot of reasons I don't like them, but their being "melodic" isn't one of them.

That's fine though, there is plenty of stuff I like that many people hate, the difference though is I don't care what they think and don't have a need to try win them over.Or defend it. Defend my right to my own opinion sometimes sure..if I feel that is being trend upon, but I couldn't care less what people think of my taste or my bands.

"great anthemic stuff" not to these ears

Why so angry? Is anyone denying you the right to listen to whatever you want?...who said that? and where? Too bad you obviously seem to take Slipknot a lot more seriously than they take themselves!!!.... of course they are play-acting as monsters and trying to come across as scary, it's rock theatre essentially... and exactly how is that any different to you calling yourself 'KillerWolf the Cosmic Time Warp Warrior'?!!! :uh:

The melodic Slipknot I hate the most. Same with Stone Sours most melodic stuff.
I do like Murderdolls though.
I don't even really care if people like them, just don't force me to listen to them, I would rather hear a shitty album of a band I love then those 2 bands. They are both over rated as hell.

Hey DKW and Sound, you were having a great discourse for the longest time on that topic but I hope you civil being can end it where it left because I didn't find the majority of it childish at all as you carried yourselves pretty well considering what I've seen between outspoken (in a positive sense) members. It seems to have hit that point though where the only thing left to dish out would be of a personal nature so we should be glad for those that like their version of scary and intimidating to continue by their own measure of what that is.

As far as Slipknot goes I'm not a fan of most metal vocals of that nature from bands less or more hardcore/heavy/metal than them. Depending on how it's integrated with the music I can appreciate certain ones more than other. What I can appreciate from Slipknot is Corey Taylor who surprisingly has an amazing vocal as evidenced by my preferred band, Stone Sour. The fact that he can balance both spectrums has my respect. :cheers2
