I'm with those that can handle the sax in some songs, but don't wish for a steady diet of it.

Surprised Huey Lewis wasn't mentioned..he used a ton of it.

Heres a very underated sax player IAN NELSON.....brother to the legendary ex BE BOP DELUXE guitarist Bill . Sadly Ian died a few years back ,he had worked with his brother on solo stuff and in the 80s was with UK electro/pop band FIAT LUX who made a few great singles.....if a bit on the obscure side

Three pages into a sax discussion and still no mention of the great King Curtis!? He played on all those early hits by the Coasters (Yakkity Yak, Charlie Brown, Along Came Jones). He also played with Buddy Holly and even had a couple of solo hits. He did a session for John Lennon's "Imagine" album and was killed a few weeks later.
A few people have mentioned "Urgent" by Foreigner. The guy playing sax on that is Jr. Walker, who had a number of hits with his band The All-Stars (Shotgun, How Sweet It Is, What Does It Take). He also played on Carole King's "Jazz Man".

Lest we forget this classic from the film "Breaking Glass" by Hazel O'conner, I saw her a couple of years ago and she was excellent and so was the Sax solo

I may as well get in a rip. I despise the saxophone. It sounds UGLY. It's OBNOXIOUS. I hate the sound. It's by far the worst sounding brass (or whatever you term it) instrument


I hate the sax, it's ugly, obnoxious, it's uncool, and it's NOT Rock n Roll.

The sax is by far the most rock and roll brass instrument. It was an integral part of early rock and roll, at least up through the surf rockers of the 60's. All of this talk about the sax in the 70's and 80's entirely misses its best and most vital period in rock and roll.

DANG!!! I was gonna post this. Thin Lizzy's Live And Dangerous is one of my all time favorite live albums.

I missed by 2 posts. Oh, well, at least there's someone else out there that appreciates this album.

Plus, I almost always have Plan B.

This little gem is from Aerosmith's Live Bootleg cd. It's from 1973, recorded at a place called Paul's Mall. it's from a simulcast radio broadcast, (there are a couple other versions they did as well that are available on youtube.)
