Lets discuss the use of saxophone in rock music . Cool or uncool ? Theres no doubt it can sound a beautiful musical instrument at times....
Popular in the 70s.....prog rock bands HAWKWIND , GONG are fine examples of bands making it popular as did more the glam bands of the day like ROXY MUSIC ,WIZZARD etc
Punk/new wave artists liked a bit of sax now and again :heheh:, 80s pop stars DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS, MADNESS also come to mind, but since then has the saxophone become a unfashionable instrument that sounds dated? Your opinions please.....:grinthumb

.......SAX legend ANDY MACKAY /ROXY MUSIC

Yeah Money is probably the most obvious and greatest one! :))
Dick Parry is a brilliant player.
I love Gong and Didier Malherbe. He was awesome. He kind of played sax as a rhythm instrument too.

I love Sax in rock music...and always have.

Here's one from Al Stewart, the title track off Year of the Cat.

While I'm a jazz fan and love the sax, I wouldn't want hear it in every rock song. Though in certain ones it adds a nice touch.

Mott The Hoople used the sax in a number of their songs :

As did Bowie

Hard core jazz Hawk? I like some jazz myself, but I don't enjoy scat singing at all but that still leaves lots of great music.

I wouldn't say I'm a hard core fan LG but do like Jazz and usually listen to it in the car to relax on the way home from work. If I'd listen to Slayer, Metallica, Motorhead ect. I would probably drive my car through a store front or something like that.

I listen to stuff like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Roland Kirk, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz ect.

George Benson, Dave Brubeck, Gary Burton, Miles Davis are a few of my favorites.

I love the Sax!

One of my favorite sax players is Tim Cappello, who is a session musician for the most part, but did a long stint with Tina Turner's band.

If you fast forward the video to 3:15 that is Tim on the sax:

another song he got notoriety for was on the soundtrack for "lost boys" his vocals and sax
