When asked which was his favourite track on Abbey Road, Paul opted for George's Something. You can hear Paul's influence all over George's songs for The Beatles, which is why his (George's) solo material was so disappointing. George, in turn, rightly defended Ringo's Octopus's Garden for being on the Abbey Road album. When they put their minds to it, The Beatles could pull together until the end. That is why they went out on such a strong album as Abbey Road.
There is no doubt The Beatles missed Brian Epstein and his tragic death was the beginning of the end, hence their epitaph, 'Boy, you've got to carry that load a long time.'
