Gary Thain is also one my favorite bassist, and I love early Uriah Heep, but have to say, I think they drop of in quality dramatically after Gary and David Byron's departure. I like the heavy progressive rock stuff they did ...I can't get in to their more poppy material.
^^ Glad your enjoying the thread Garrett!! Keep on posting.. Show us your gear too!!
One of the Bassist that I really liked at a young age and would probably be the reason I first started to learn playing the Bass was Francis Rocco Prestia.
His style is definitely advanced and very technical to try and follow, but I love the way he just works the neck. He is the Bassist for Tower Of Power..
OK Garrett.. I just took a quick peek at the makings of Morphine.. A power trio as they say.. I've never heard of these guys and reading about them tells me they were mostly Indie label musicians and more famous in the European radio stations..
So in the video you posted with Les Claypool, Did Mark already pass away?? Or did he just sit out and let Les do the Bass??
But pretty freaky concept with a Bass sax and Bass guitar and drummer..
But as far as Les goes.. What's not interesting about him.. His work with "Primus" is pretty awesome as far as a Bass player being the lead of the band..
I've never seen on stage but would enjoy it I'm sure..

Mark had already passed away by the time that was filmed and recorded for The Mark Sandman Project at Hi N Dry Studios.
Their web site server is down but this is a description. It`s a pretty kick ass studio, I hope they are still up and operational!
Hi-n-Dry is a Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA-based independent record label and recording studio. Founded by the late Morphine singer and bassist Mark Sandman, the studio and label are currently managed by former Morphine bandmates Dana Colley and Billy Conway along with Laurie Sargent and Andrew Mazzone. Once located in Sandman's former loft apartment, the studio moved to the Somerville Armory Arts Center in Somerville, Massachusetts in December 2007.
Noel was a Bass player for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Redding was the first person to join the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the first to leave, his final concert with them was in June 1969. Noel died on May 11, 2003 aged 57.
I play bass, but I actually like to keep it simple. I've never been atracted to learning all these complicated things like Jaco Pastorius or funky kind of bass playing. I actually feel better playing Ramones-like bass or Strokes, because that's the music I like. Maybe some day I will learn more complicated stuff. I personally like the bassist from Arctic Monkeys, who is very awesome.
