I was thinking yesterday... When I first heard Lola by the Kinks, I could have sworn it was something made within the last 20 years. You know, something The Black Keys or maybe Arctic Monkeys would make. It really got me thinking about classic rocks influence on Indie and Alternative. What band, or bands do you think bread the greatest Influence? Velvet Underground, The Kinks, what do you think?

I would have to go a bit out of left field and say somebody like Genesis, Jethro Tull, even Yes. The original alternative bands like VU had a rougher texture and approach. Prog rock brought in that smooth, lush, wave of sound type music where it's really more about the sound than it is about the lyrics or ideas. I consider that to be the backbone of modern indie, with their lush sound and emphasis on atmosphere.
