Here's one of my BIC Venturi 5312 speakers and my 1973 vintage Sansui AU-101 amplifier on one of the hardwood maple dressers in my bedroom that I inherited from my parents. The amp and speakers await connection to a turntable and cassette deck with which I'm planning to mate them.

I almost picked up an old Sansui a few years ago, but the bid went higher than I was prepared to pay.

I've admittedly not auditioned any Bose speakers. But whenever the subject of Bose comes up on any audiophile forum I visit, the responses are hilarious:







Bose draws the sneers for a combination of these reasons:

1. Bose spends more advertising its speakers than ALL other speaker manufacturers combined.

2. Bose pays a commission to store salesmen over and above what the store itself pays! Salesmen therefore have an extra incentive to push Bose.

3. Shoddy component parts. Dismantle a Bose speaker and it's filled with cheap off the shelf parts.

4. Bose top end speakers are designed to fill the room with sound - by bouncing the sound waves all over the room! This plays hell with resolution/detail, and it's detail that audiophiles most value!

I also have a Bose system in my 350 Z.. and the sound is awesome.. Two huge sub woofers behind the seats and then a set of 10 inch woofers and tweeters in the doors and under the dash..
The sound is great!!
My reflection speakers don't cause any resolution problems what so ever..
So the people on that forum sound more like finding fault with the name brand rather than giving Bose a fair rating..
They have a set of out door speakers I'd like to have that are water proof and can play under water.
They sounded awesome!!
And I'm sure there are better speakers out there but really Bose does satisfy when it comes to a good full sound..

I had a pair of BIC Venturi bookshelves when I was a sprout. I don't remember the model number. They were my first upgrade, following an initial purchase of some nastily boomy Cerwin Vegas (the CVs were themselves the result of a bait-and-switch the dealer pulled on me - I was supposed to be getting a pair of JBLs). The thing I remember most about the BICs was that their beige foam grilles tended to disintegrate if they were removed too many times. The foam itself acted as the "loop" part of a "hook & loop" retaining system (aka Velcro). So each time you pulled them away from the hook pads, the structure of the foam broke down a little bit. Didn't matter too much, though, as the speakers weren't in my system long - they were replaced pretty quickly with a pair of E-V Interface A's.

I have this in Black and Red

Its a Sony Muteki LBT-ZX66i, bought it for around 500 bucks, pretty reasonable. Its a mini speaker system, but its louder than any I've heard

as for record players, I have one similar to this.

Found it cheap at a yard sale a while back..the things people pretty much throw away.

1. The rabbit ears help my 1977 vintage Hitachi FT-340 tuner bring in CHML in Hamilton which broadcasts Hamilton Tiger-Cat and Hamilton Bulldog games.

2. My CDs are in a cabinet off to the side.

3. My Sansui amplifier has been a workhorse all these years not giving me even the tiniest bit of trouble since 1974. I retired it two years ago but I'll give it a second career in a few weeks.
