^^They've been around for a long time, my first Moving Coil was the MC-20 back in 1978, and I loved it.

I was considering buying their $1000 MC...can't remember the model right now but then bills came up and car repairs so I held off.

There are a host of really good $200 cartridges out there Jim, you will have no trouble finding one...choosing one Maybe but not finding one.:heheh:

^^Your rig looks good so I get the feeling you would do fine without all our 'expert' advice.:D

But as you can see we love gear, even now all these years later it's in my blood. In fact I was going into the city this week specifically to listen to the ML's you bought...and the ESL's too. How bad is that?? ;)

^^I'll go in a couple days, the inch of freezing rain we got has made the roads here beyond dangerous...I got stuck two blocks from the house my truck hit the ice and ended up sideways in the intersection.:mad

Futureshop carries them Jim so no worries they'll still be there next time I venture out.:D

Between my left and right speakers...
Safety first...

^The temp drops here in Cali to 50 and everyone freaks out. I think of folks such as yourself as well as those in the Northeast that have to deal with far lower centigrades and I stop whining. It does keep my amps cooler to the touch...hee hee. Be safe on your outside jaunts Bruce.

I usually lower the lights when I play music but out of the blue I decided to turn on the strobe light on the turntable tonight. Liked it...I can see the arm running on the wax. :****: Just reminded myself to use the cleaning fluid on the needle.

Now thinking of lava lamps. :D

^^George get the "Onzow Zerodust" stylus cleaner, it's the bomb, best design I've ever seen, it's not expensive either and will last a lifetime easily.

LG is right , I have read some good stuff on the Denon cartridges, read a review last night on the Red vs. Blue from Ortofon and everyone said it was worth the extra 100 bucks for the Blue. IMO tho, unless you have a superior lp preamp it is not worth spending much more than the entry Denon, Rega or Ortofons.

^^I'm pretty sure everyone of us growing up listening to FM stations has already heard the Denon cartridge I mentioned Taha. Most radio stations loved them because not only did they do a really good job with the sound quality, but they were durable and had a unique ability to minimize background noise off the vinyl.

I am still tempted to get one, just because it's a legend.

Your observation about a good preamp/phono stage is sound, if you spend $500 on a nice cartridge but run it through a regular phono stage you might not be that impressed, at least not for the money you spent.

I will say that my vintage Yamaha CA 1010 has beautiful phono stages built in can handle MC or MM so if I bought the Denon MC that is what I would run it through.
