I haven't seen them Live since the Steel Wheels tour, but the 2005 release "A Bigger Bang" wasn't too shabby! :grinthumb

They need to tour less, and less. They will soon be unable to tour or record, I just hope nothing terrible happens on stage. Nothing would be more depressing to stones fans if one of the band members keeled over on stage.

I tried to go to a stones show a year ago or so. Way to expensive. I could pay half of the rent for what they were asking. The classic bands are all in a survival trip now anyway, its sad to watch more than anything. If it were me I would have retired after the early 80's and enjoyed the spoils.

I have nothing against their albums from the 90's up to the newest studio recording, but for my money early Stones will always be the best.

OFB I agree with you, and although I have mentioned it numerous times over the years, Mick Jagger was quoted in "Rolling Stone" magazine in the late 70's saying he couldn't see him or the boys touring when they were in their 60's. I guess the lure and trappings of money and celebrity outweigh everything else in their world.

I just think that as you get older, especially if some of your band mates are dazed from drugs, you need some time to recoup. Some time to re-hash and regroup. Instead of putting something out every year or so, perfect your craft and if that cant be done, leave it alone. I look at quite a few of their late 80's to 90's albums as an undeclared "Were still alive, we did some great stuff, remember?" Even if the music was past par, it still carries that message to me.

^^You do need to refocus and rest as you get older no denying that.

And as much as their die hard fans hate to hear it, they are going to stop touring one day, who knows maybe Richard's book will be the final straw that closes the final chapter on the Stones.

Well I think part of it is that the old guys have chemistry musically. Even though that composition has long since been stale in the studio, they seem to have a good emotion about what their doing on a live stage, that in itself could be staged though. Another part of me thinks that they are staying together because of what I call 'married couple' syndrome.

Guy meets friends, friends hang for a long time and do epic things together, once the spark goes away they stay together through monetary obligation, rights to ownership, and some kind of extended refusal to let go of what is PAST. Few actually stay together because they are madly in love, although its a nice thought to hold in your youth.

I think on top of it all nothing will ever replace the rapturous "High" they get playing live shows,,,that is as addicting as any drug, so I'm sure that's part of the picture as well.

Oh yeah, live albums are what really gets me going. Its where the artist and fan collide. A beautiful thing, that chemistry between artist and audience. I've listened to a few live performances by the stones of a more recent date. They're up there strictly running on the enthusiasm of the crowd. Once the crowd is quiet, you can see that it isn't what it used to be and that's just fine. Lucky that they are all able to play anyway.

Indeed I do count myself lucky that I did get to see them live, one of the last bands I had on my "Bucket" list in fact.:D

I've already knocked Wolfmother, Leslie West, Jeff Beck, and the eagles off of that list. Its been a couple years since I've seen a show. I'm waiting for the foxes to tour again, I will definitely be a number one contender for a ticket.

More on subjuct, the stones will always be in the category of 'one of few bands to do a perfect song' which for me is 'Sweet Virginia' Nothing will ever beat that studio recording for me, as far as the stones go.

I've been thinking about buying a concert dvd from them, preferably early to mid career. Round the time of Exile. Any suggestions?
