1984's "Let's Spend the Night Together" seems to be a highly thought of concert, it would be the one I would choose.

LG, I think that you're grossly over-estimating the damage done by Keith's book.

Keith has said that he and Mick have talked about it, that Mick read the book, and the actual damages were minimal. Keith had a laugh by bashing his buddy, and the press blew it out of proportion.

As for the news about them NOT touring next year....SONOFABITCH!!! :mad

^^You might be right DOC, I don't read those kind of books anyway, I was just expressing what I would do if someone said a bunch of nice things about me in that way...yeah my age is showing again.:heheh:

Yeah, I understand, LG. It would depend on the context, for me. If someone was just talking shit, that would be one thing. But, if my lifelong best friend who I've had many falling outs with was just telling it like it was, I wouldn't care so much.

I started reading Keith's book, and it was really good, but I decided to spend some time reconnecting with my literary roots instead. In the first hundred pages, though, Keith speaks of Mick in a very flattering tone. The only negative thing he's said so far is that he wished that Mick sang with as much sincerity as when he plays the harp.

I've been thinking about buying a concert dvd from them, preferably early to mid career. Round the time of Exile. Any suggestions?

You have to go with "Ladies & Gentlemen the Rolling Stones"
Here's my review on it from this forum:

I love "Let's Spend the Night Together" (especially because I'm a Ronnie Wood fan) but "Ladies & Gentlemen the Rolling Stones" is unbelievable. I know there was a concert from Paris 1975 or '76 which was broadcast on TV in the 70's which I would also love to see released on DVD. "Shine a Light" is a great DVD also.

It's funny though because I am a Stones freak, I think last I counted about 15 years ago I had at least 40 vinyl records of theirs, & I also have at least 25 cd's by them but I never seen them live!!! I was so pissed on the '78 & '81 tours that they sold out before I could get tickets. I did get to see 'Let's Spend the Night Together' in a theater when the movie was first released in '83. I've heard well over a hundred live shows by them over the years & I really enjoyed the shows from the Some Girls Tour. It seemed like most of the shows on that tour didn't use sax, horns, extra percussion, or Back-up singers (just the band sounding really raw...they did have Ian Stewart & Ian Maclegan on piano & Keyboards). Nothing against the other tours I've heard because they all are excellent but that Some Girls tour just had that extra raw energy sound & feel to it. It may have been because Punk was really popular at that time, not to say The Stones went punk because they didn't but check out their performance of "Shattered" & especially "Respectable" on Saturday Night Live from back then.

The '81/'82 tour which 'Let's Spend the Night Together' is from is a great Rock & Roll show which concentrated on the songs even adding an old Eddie Cochran tune (20 Flight Rock) & a Smokey Robinson tune (Going to a Go Go). The show mixed in a bit of everything from the Stones career bringing back older hits like the title track, Under My Thumb, & Time is on My Side. Basically that tour gave you the Hits & as I said concentrated on the songs where as 'Ladies & Gentlemen the Rolling Stones' from the '72 tour, I feel really concentrates on the music & the band. The band really plays with unbelievable intensity that has to be witnessed especially the last 6 songs. On 'Let's Spend the Night Together' you get an unbelievable performance from the band as a whole where as on 'Ladies & Gentlemen the Rolling Stones' you get that but each member shines individually as well especially Keith Richards
