Steve Howe has left Asia, the band have confirmed.

The guitarist has decided to concentrate fully on other projects, departing the band he co-founded in 1981 with John Wetton, Geoff Downes and Carl Palmer.

Howe says in a statement: “Myself and the band wish to thank the fans for the enthusiasm shown during the original members’ reunion. I will continue with Yes, and with my trio and solo guitar work. I wish my friends continued success.”

Singer Wetton says: “Asia is ready to take its next steps along this remarkable road. We cannot wait to perform again for the fans and also to unveil some of the new material, of which we are very proud.”

Drummer Palmer adds: “We’re all looking forward to the next decade of great Asia music.”

The original lineup reunited in 2006. Last month they were forced to cancel a UK tour after drummer Palmer suffered a severe attack of E.coli.

Yes recently announced they’d perform three classic albums in full during their upcoming US tour.

I haven't really followed Asia since the reunion, but it doesn't surprise me with everything on Steve's plate he decided it was time to move on.

From what Wetton and Palmer say looks like they'll slot in a new guitarist and carry on, good luck to them.
