Bod Dylan - Highlands
"I’m listening to Neil Young, I gotta turn up the sound
Someone’s always yelling turn it down"

Nirvana - Pennyroyal Tea
"Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld
So I can sigh eternally"

"Gimme Some Truth" ~ John Lennon

"No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky..."

Tricky dicky is a reference to Richard Milhous Nixon.

One of the best of his angry songs. I place it just behind "Revolution."

"I've had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic, egocentric, paranoiac, prima donnas"

That line could apply to reality shows.

Thanks for commenting on my entry! :)
I agree it's one of his best songs, angry or otherwise, and even though he has lots of passion in his singing of his lyrics, the music is a really pretty tune. I often wonder what John Lennon would think or say of the world today. I'm willing to bet if he were still with us, people would want commentary from him on just about everything.

I'm willing to bet he would offer commentary without any prompting. He was never one to back away from an opinion! Lordy knows, he'd have plenty to rant about.

"Manic Monday" ~ The Bangles

I was kissin' Valentino
By a crystal blue Italian stream

Refers to Rudolph Valentino, who was Italian and born in Italy.

Now that you mention it, Roxi, Valentino got around. He was also mentioned in the previously posted "Celluloid Heroes" by the Kinks...

...and in "Seaside Rendezvous" by Queen
I'll be your Valentino
We'll ride upon an omnibus and then the casino

... Queen again, in "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy."
We can do the tango just for two
I can serenade and gently play on your heart strings
Be your Valentino just for you

Yes, he sure did. That was his reputation! He was considered a hot Latin Lover in his day, and that was quite an influence he had on the songwriters of the songs you mentioned, most probably learned from their parents or even grandparents. He was supposed to be the epitome of a hot guy back in the day. :D

Must've been his head gear. ;)
