Aging Metalhead
I've been rolling this idea around for a while, and thought I'd take a shot at it.
The objective is for us here at CRF to come up with the song of the decade, according to us.
My source for these songs is Billboard's Year End Hot 100 , which I got at Wikipedia.
Anyway, I thought 100 songs would be a little much, so I cut it down to 50.
I was going to pick out the songs that aren't considered 'rock', but that would have been putting the list's credibility in question.
So, I left the list exactly as I found it, regardless of genre.
You'll find some country, a little jazz, funk, soundtrack, and towards the end of the decade, a big disco presence.
The only changes I made was to list the songs alphabetically instead of by chart position, so all the songs start on even ground.
I also left out the word 'The' from the band names, just to make the listing easier.
With the single artists, I listed them by first names. First name last seemed unnecessary. After all, we're not landing on the moon here.
Anyhow, as we get these done (1970 -1979) I'll keep a list. Rather than adding one at a time, I thought it's be better to see the whole list at once, once the strips are done. Hopefully that'll make that much more difficult.
Oh, and just so your know, be ready to go back. While I worked on these lists, I found many, many great songs I hadn't heard or thought of in years and years. A great trip through my youth.
