It would be interesting to see the results of a poll with Neil Peart up against other technical drummers like Billy Cobham, Terry Bozzio, Bill Bruford, Phil Collins and the like.
Create one if you'd like. Most likely the Popular Vote will/would go to either Neil or Phil even if the Technical Vote had the chance of going elsewhere.:****:

^ I wonder more so how the Vote(s) would lean had he & Alex not been on this list.:****:

^ Well, I still believe that most people here voted on/by both technical skills & popularity.

Does it really matter why people voted for their choice?
I didn't vote my choice for anything but their skill and the fact I really like what they brought to their respective band and genre. It would be silly to vote based on popularity but I don't think people really voted for that reason unless they confirm it.

^ Trust me, it's clearly about popularity & who they like/prefer. I don't care though. I just asked for people to vote. As a musician I have influences, but some people may just like the way one artist sounds/plays over the other. It's always about popularity whether someone admits it or not. Once again, since I'm a musician, I'm actually proud to tell people who I like/prefer more. If others won't admit it, then we'll just move on either way.:woot:

What you did mention though about how someone sounds is a big part of my vote, I like the way Martin drums for Opeth, it flowed perfectly with each song. Surprised about the lack of vote for Lars because he at one point was a decent drummer on the first five albums. Played some insane double bass on Battery and Fight Fire With Fire.
