As part of the “Big Four,” Slayer did two concerts in the United States — New York and Los Angeles — with Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica. In Europe, the bands played in several countries and even have a DVD of their show in Bulgaria. Although the bands played for packed stadiums, Araya said fans shouldn’t hold out hope for more shows — and points the finger at Metallica.

“I don’t want to say politics is preventing that,” Araya said. “It’s not the politics between bands; it’s the politics of character in one particular band. We had an issue that came up on the New York show, which really freaked everybody out, but the New York show happened. I think, in all honesty, that was the last time we did the Big Four. I think another Big Four show might not happen. They could prove me wrong. Those shows basically, even though it was called the Big Four, it was done through Metallica. It was with Metallica’s blessing that allowed those shows to happen. If they want to continue and do a couple more shows, I think that would be great … if we were to sit down with them and communicate with them, that’s what I’d tell them.”

Until then, Slayer is moving on with its own projects. Araya said currently the band is working on material for a new album with hopes of recording in January.

I detect Lars and Hetfield in this misunderstanding,,,or their management.

Slayer was just here a few days ago, they will play whether connected with "The Big 4" or not.

If it had to do with Metallica I would say more Lars since he seems to be the one who runs the business side of things.

Metallica seem more like a business now rather than a band which is why I have gradually lost a lot of interest in them especially of late. For a band as active as they are no reason why they haven't already an album between now and Death Magnetic.

I assumed it was Dave Mustaine that was the problem. You can't have the Big 4 without all 4 of those bands, so if one pulls out, it's ****ed.

Metallica are always on tour, I just figured the Big 4 was another marketing opportunity for them to come round to Europe again. I'm assuming it was done through Metallica as they are the only ones capable of headlining stadiums on their own.

I didn't interpret it as pointing the finger at Metallica personally. I can't remember when the New York shows were, but Dave Mustaine appeared in a ****ing foul mood at the two Megadeth shows I saw in 2012.

Not surprising. Talk about a perfect storm, I'm surprised there was ever a Big 4 show to begin with. Lots of egos there to deal with.

Never was a fan of the big four concept to begin with. No way is Anthrax more worthy of being in the Big Four over the likes of Testament.
