I wouldn't expect it to change your mind. There is no disagreeing in the fact that the band has two seperate styles that went on. Even though a bit of the band showed up in both.

Yes Big Ears...really like Big Money.

For Wolf though, if you do re listen, I'm not sure what may grow on you.

Those albums, for me have to be listened to with a cinematic frame of mind. Sort of a dream like state of mind. I mean the heavy drive is there, but it's more ethereal , even though the early stuff was cinematic in it's own right.

Yeah, your feeling was correct on that, MP. Just wasn't able to get into them..I mean they are .....OK....that's as far as I could go.

Gonna check out Roll The Bones next to see what I think of that one. Maybe some of the newest stuff will be more to my liking.

So what was it Signals up to Hold Your Fire? Or Grace Under Pressure to Hold Your Fire...where did it start with ya. Let me know how Roll The Bones hits ya.

TBH, it started w/ Moving Pictures, Signals and Grace Under Pressure...all 3 of which I think are "pretty good" but their 70's material is Godlike to me. So the direction shift was a major disappointment to me...one I may never recover from lol...after that I'm really not fond of the rest of the 80's material at all..just half descent in my book.

I'll let you know after I listen to it a bit...I'm sure my opinions on RUSH are not endearing me to the mainstream crowd here ....but hey, somethings never change


Oh, and as an after thought...just have to say ...all of it bares the mark of musical greatness ...I can hear that...RUSH are immensely talented. But having said that some of it is just not my thing.

It's all good. If anything I think it's cool and interesting to hear THIS persepctive since you love the 70's output so much. Which as you know I do too, more than the rest.

That was almost my exact experience. The first album I heard from them was All the World's a Stage, shortly thereafter I heard Caress of Steel, 2112 and I think Farewell to Kings (which was the 'new' album when I first got into them).

Permanent waves was a let down but had enough 'meat' for me not to complain too much. Ditto for Moving Pictures (I remember the horror of thinking Neil might be saying they were going New Wave by the Lyrics in Vital Signs) but Signals hit me like a turd shot from a pneumatic cannon. I really REALLY despised it when it first came out. By the time GUP came out I was looking for a new band to occupy my time.

I like both of those albums quite a bit now but I'll never forget how utterly disappointing I was in the change of direction.

Yeah, I hated ALL the albums I mentioned when they first came out and was none too happy about Permanent Waves either. I like all 4 more these days but they still can't hold a candle to the might and majesty of 70's RUSH.

Fly By Night remains my favourite Rush album followed closely by 2112 and Clockwork Angels.
