Do you like the Rolling Stones? Like looking at pictures of them? Have a lot of extra cash sitting around? Then you may be totally into a new photo book signed by the group that’s selling for $5,000.

The book, which is simply titled ‘The Rolling Stones’ (apparently a more elaborate title would have added a couple thousand to the price tag), features autographs by the four members of the band who are still around: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts. So that’s basically $1,250 per signature if you want to look at it that way.

That said, the book does feature more than 500 photos from the band’s entire long career, including some that have never been seen before. Famous photographers Anton Corbijn, Annie Leibovitz, Gered Mankowitz and Helmut Newton all contributed to the project.

The limited-edition book, which will be published by Taschen in December, includes a forward penned by President Bill Clinton, essays, a timeline and more. Only 1,150 copies of the individually numbered books will be available, so keep that in mind while you contemplate ordering.

“This book isn’t just rock ‘n’ roll, it’s a roller coaster through 50 years of memory lane,” Richards declares in press materials announcing the volume.

The imminent publication of ‘The Rolling Stones’ has got to be a sore point for Kiss, who put out their own insanely expensive book just two years ago. No doubt the crafty entrepreneurs are kicking themselves now for not charging an extra $701 per copy of their photo book ‘Monster.’ Maybe they have a few left in the warehouse they can unload at the new price, just to stay competitive.

Hahaha! Fair point, Lynch.

I saw The Stones on tour here in Vienna this year and not too long ago, I received an e-mail that offered me two sets of lithographs that the band had offered on each stop of the tour. There are two, an Asian and a European. The European one costs €790, the Asian one costs €290. A bundle with bost costs "just" €1070. An insane offer for fans who already paid shitloads of money for their tickets. So yeah, The Stones are no better than Kiss. And I'll even give Kiss some credit, all that merch and their general release policy (although I’m sure record companies plays a part here) may seem greedy, but to be fair, their prices are always decent.

Also agree on the point about KISS. I think what the Rolling Stones have going is that they are a lot closer to croaking so they may be upping the price for the last chance to get an autograph idea. :heheh:

Wouldn't it be awesome if they made the book one inch bigger than the KISS book?

Assuming these are legitimate signatures and not prints, I don't mind that they're doing this. I'm not going to buy it, personally. But as an autograph collector myself, nothing is better than merchandise directly from the source. There are like 99 fake autographs to every 1 legitimate one even from the "good" dealers, so when you can get something from a reliable source, maybe that's worth $1,000.

The Stones aren't my #1 cup of tea for autos but if you had, say, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, or the cast of the original X-Men films, $5,000 is a bit steep but I would consider dropping a few thousand on something like that. The only thing is, I would not pay that much for a book. It would have to be a painting or a photo that I can then mount and hang on the wall.
