Robert Plant says NO to a Billion Dollar Payday

Richard-Branson.jpg

According to reports out of England, Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson had offered a 500 million pound payday (almost a billion dollars Canadian) to the members of Led Zeppelin to reform. An industry source has been quoted as saying “Robert, Jimmy, and John stood to make 450 Million per show (Canadian) for “35 Dates in three cities, London at the O2, Berlin and New Jersey”. Zeppelin was also promised a healthy chunk of cash for their merchandise and there was an option to do 45 more gigs in five venues”. Branson was also going to provide air transportation via his “Starship” but would be re-named Stairway To Heaven and sell off the back 20 rows of the aircraft as special Led Zeppelin seats for an astonishing $200,000 (Canadian) (keeps out the riff raff ). The source also said “Branson tried to pull out all of the stops but even his money was not enough to get Plant to sign up.” Can’t blame a rich man for tryin…

Much as I loved Zep I've got enormous respect for Robert. He just keeps saying no, and there isn't any amount of money which would change his mind. He's doing his own thing and loving it!

Plant is right. Unfortunately, IMO, his vocals absolutely not at the proper level to all those old songs in our time.

Quite honestly I prefer to remember Led Zepp as they were in their heyday. I wouldn't be so very excited if the did get back together and toured again.

I'm glad Richard Branson didn't get what he wanted :D

Being a businessman, Branson obviously believes he would make a butt load of money himself.

Actually, looking at the deal, my first thought wasn't even about the money. The first I thought was, man, that's a pretty heavy workload. We're not talking about a handful of dates, this is a full blown tour.

I said before, it'd be way groovy to do maybe a 10-12 show acoustic tour. They could call it 'Two Old Guys Sitting In Chairs While Scalpers Become BillionairesTour' and sell every last ticket.

They don't need the Zep name to sell anything.

I saw Robert Plant on Letterman, and he has a book out (with pictures) he seems quite happy with that. :D

35 Dates in three cities? 45 shows in 5 venues?

Sounds like a shitty frickin' tour. Glad they didn't accept. I mean come on you have 3 venues for your whole tour and New Jersey is one of them? Not Madison Square Garden? And did he say he's selling seats to their private plane?? I'd love to see Zepp reunite. But not for this bozo. He was planning a circus, not a tour. He could have offered 2 billion, Robert's way too rich and content to accept such a stupid idea.

This was purely a vanity move from that kook Branson. You can't lay demands like that on people who are already wealthier than Saudi Kings and have already turned down much more reasonable deals. What a joke.

I would also agree with this. Robert had to hit some pretty high notes "back in the day", but voices change with age.
That's a WHOLE LOT of bucks for him to turn down, but obviously he knows what he's doing.

Plant is right. Unfortunately, IMO, his vocals absolutely not at the proper level to all those old songs in our time.
