Robert A. Moog

May 23, 1934 / Aug. 21, 2005

Robert was the inventor of the Moog synthesizer. The holder of a Ph.D in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, he perfected the art of making synthesized music. Moog's analog synthesizers were used by some of the top rock bands, from the 70's trio Emerson Lake & Palmer, to Sting and the Police in the 80's and 90's. He received a Grammy Trustees Award in 1970 for his contribution to modern music, and was the holder of many other awards worldwide. He passed away from a inoperable brain tumor in 2005.

I loved the Moog synthesizer, it opened the door to so many new possibilities in music we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Here's a good picture of Keith Emerson with an old analog Moog Synthesizer.

The lobby of the Ritz hotel.
I owe so much of my musical happiness to this guy.

Also, I laugh when people say "Moog" for how it's spelled.

It rhymes with vogue, alright? Alright.

Also also, f*** yeah, Moroder and Kraftwerk.

Another example of how so many have contributed to music we all love that we often tend to forget.

One of the first acts to have access was The Monkees!! A studio musician played it on Star Collector, however Mickey Dolenz thought that he was being too musically proper with it.

Mickey took his own stab at it on Michael Nesmith's "Daily Nightly"

It's very likely that this is the FIRST rock record to use the Moog.

The Beatles used the Moog synthesizer during the recording of Abbey Road in 1969...Maxwell's Silver Hammer", "Because", "Here Comes the Sun", and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)".
